That moment when the Stars Align

I can't thank you all enough for all of the advice I have received from many of you over the past couple of days.

I went out this morning bright and early at 7:00am, weather perfect, for my first post grad C25K run, unsure how to run or how far to go, but I had all of your advice running round my head, so I decided to do my usual 5 minute warm up walk and then just see how I felt.

I switched Strava on and off I went, consciously trying to slow things down, there's no rush! A little while later I heard Strava say I had run 1km, pace 5:07/km, crap that's way too fast I thought, but it feels so easy, so I decided to continue with the same pace, second km 5:09 seconds, blimey what's going on? I feel great!

Some time later I heard 5km, thought I still feel great, so I continued until I had run 6.1km, when I reached a convenient place to stop and have a warm down walk home. I even had the energy towards the end of the run to berate a person waiting for a bus, she saw me coming, could have easily stepped to the side, but no, she owned the whole path and was going to push me into the road! Some people have absolutely no consideration!!

I feel like I have had some sort of fitness break through, what an amazing feeling it is when that happens :-)

I hope everyone else has a great run as well today.

Still on the 30 min stints at the moment mate. My last one I had to stop halfway through as I was running to fast. I'll stick to 30 mins for a week or two yet then hopefully join the bridge to 10 k . How are you finding it?.

I know what you mean about running too fast, it just becomes very uncomfortable, I have done that a couple of times recently, but based on this mornings run, its going well atm, I was feeling good before I started and I managed to run at the right pace. But I know it won't last, just hope I can run and feel like I did this morning again! I fully intend to reach 10K, I just need to work out the best way to do it.

Is there podcasts for the bridge like the c25k to follow ?

Visionon profile image
VisiononGraduate10 in reply to Forestgrump

I think there are, but I don't like running with headphones in, or listening to music etc, so I haven't really looked into it, much prefer to hear what's going on around me.

Hold on... From Iannodatruffe post: nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...

How did you do the c2 5k without the trainer telling you when to run and when to walk ?.

Visionon profile image

Yes I did follow the C25K app, I had Laura as my companion, but just had it running on my phone on my arm, also there isn't too much talking and no music... Now I just freestyle with Strava ;-)

Ah! ok. I have to say I'm struggling without Laura telling me what to do . I might do the bridge one soon and hope she's on it !

Wow, youre fast. it still takes me 43 minutes to run 5k.

That doesn't matter, we all have a pace where we feel comfortable, and you've made it to 10K, so you are doing great!

in reply to Visionon

Im gradually getting faster, and I can run 2 hours without stopping or walking, so i guess I'm made for distance running. I was never fast even when young.

Wow 2 hours! That's a dream for me at the moment.

haha think plodding rather than chariots of fire, especially when running up the many hills round here!

Ha ha! I just took a look at your profile pic, if that is recent, you have many years yet before you reach 48!! Well done for reaching 10K, what plan method did you use to get there?

pinkaardvark profile image
pinkaardvarkGraduate10 in reply to Visionon

I would have been 40 in that, but 42 now so not that far to go :P

So you should be. Had to edit there. For some reason some of the words changed entirely. Flippin' app/keyboard! 😡

That is fantastic. The way you are running, you should be able to do 10 k within few weeks.

Thanks, yes probably, but I don't want to push it too much, for fear of ending up on the IC. So I intend to increase the distance slowly.
