10k PB - But too late to run! πŸ”₯ πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Morning lovelies!

Thought 8am would be fine to run today but oh no it wasn’t!! Baking hot and thought of giving up at 5k. Instead took a minute break to dowse my head in water and then give it a 2nd push. I had to walk another 5k to get back to my car anyway!

I really had to push myself as was sooooo hot and probably should have stopped. But I promised myself a week of shorter runs if I did this 10K - so kind to myself! 😜

Anyway survived and got a PB! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ

Shattered now πŸ’€ 😴 πŸ› xx

Thanks - couldn’t have done it without that break today. 😎 x

This heat is just too much. I was purple last night when I got back home! I see ambulances go past (we live near an ambulance station) and keep laughing to myself...they must see me and wonder if they will.be picking me up off the floor later πŸ˜‚

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Saartjie

Completely agree! I’ve been taking 3 days rest between 10k’s as my body really needs the rest. I had to dodge dogs and pensioners on the beach dawdling around. Jealous really. πŸ˜‚

Do you ever just dive in the sea after your run? I'd be very tempted 😊

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Saartjie

I am tempted but my heart is beating out of my chest so try not to push it!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ These 10K runs are so long incl warm up/cool down about 90 mins!

Your determination to achieve is amazing - but be careful that it doesn’t push you too far - you don’t want to collapse from heat stroke ...(that’s not very medical but i’m sure you know what i mean!) Well done for your all-round awesomeness though!

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to Pippayoungart

Thanks Pippa and you are very right about heatstroke. I was very conscious of it today and kept pouring water on my head. But tbh I should have stopped before 10 and been sensible. I should take my own advice and always run by 6! 😬

Well Done on your PB!

Lovely photos again. It's really cloudy here - not sure how warm it is as I haven't been outside yet. Just going to hang the washing out so I'll report back πŸ˜‚

Thank you!! I thought it would be fine - but oh no blazing sun. Worse thing is now I have a shorts tan as well as a Garmin watch tan!!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ x

pianoteacher profile image
pianoteacherGraduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Haha! I can confirm that it actually cold here for the first time in ages so no tan for me today :-(

Lucky you! Go out and run!! x

Not feeling well unfortunately. Dodgy stomach so I thought it best not to go to the 10k club run this morning πŸ˜‚ Feeling a bit better now so might go out for a short one before work x

Oh no. Best to avoid chores then too. Hope you feel better soon. x

I’m losing my Garmin watch tan as it’s off for replacement - due any day now. It’s going to be so ashamed of my meagre steps. I wonder if it will count when I crawl upstairs on 1 foot, 1 knee or come down on my bottom??

Sorry meant to say well done on PB and stop be silly and running when it’s too hot!!! 😑 that’s my stern motherly look

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to limberlou

I will mama Lou. πŸ˜” Not like me to run so late anyway. Now to sort out our Garmin watch tans...! Hope you are doing ok. x

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Yeah I’m doing ok. I’ve been glugging healthy homemade smoothies, eating well, taking arnica pillules and rubbing arnica gel into ankle. I have the chimney sweep coming today, my step daughter tomorrow for 4 days to visit her brothers, the boiler man coming on Saturday ....Yay!! Saturday is bathnight!!!! My rubber ducks have never been so excited!!! And then that will be 2 weeks of my sentence over. Then 2 weeks more and I can take the boot off and drop the crutches. That will make it easier as I’ll be able to take little gentle strolls .... I so miss getting out and about. And besides it will be blackberry season soon and elderberries and I need to make some elderberry port and cordial

The elderflower cordial was such a success!!!

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to limberlou

Wow busy busy!! You’ll probably be lucky in that the weather will hopefully be cooler very soon. 🀞 Don’t exhaust yourself too much before you boot cones off.

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

No I keep getting told that! My daughter came down last weekend to help me and I just kept getting frustrated as she wasn’t doing things how I do them. I was trying to relax in the sun lounger as she hung washing out. But I ended up getting up and taking over, dragging a plastic chair along to kneel my bad leg on as I pegged. She puts the pegs in the wrong places and I can’t stand it , my OCD makes me uncomfortable looking at it. I have a system where the big stuff goes at one end and the small at the other and the pegs have to match on each item and they must be pegged the same way. Daft I know but I felt so much more comfortable once I had redone it.

I’m the same with how my mugs and glasses go in the cupboard, handles the same way , same colour behind each other ... Sad I know . ☹️

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate10 in reply to limberlou

Have to say that sounds very similar to me LL. I tend to do all that sort of stuff around the house. e.g. every morning when I go into the kitchen I rotate the kettle so the handle is aligned with the wall... as Mrs Hoagy simply doesn’t understand the importance of such things πŸ˜‚

Yeah my son is a lefty so he always puts things the wrong way round

Fantastic Alka! You're a 🌟!!! You've really knocked it out of the park girl πŸ’«πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’«

I'm beaming for you 😁😁😁

As for the heat, how about trying that wet buff trick, sounds like just what you needed today.

🀩

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to

Buff was THE word of the day. I had the short break at 5k to drench my cap and pour water on my head. It dried up by the next K! Buff is the way to go. For me though no more longer runs after 6am!! Not going to believe the weather forecast! 😩 x

Try not to push things too far in this heat, though. That 1 min rest sounded very sensible. πŸ’¦πŸ’¦πŸ˜Ž I’m sure you really deserve a week of shorter runs now! 😊❀️

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to mountaindreamer

Awww thank you mountaindreamer ! I should have stopped at the 5k and next time I will. I fact I won’t run further than 5 at that time of day and heat!! Xxx

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate10

Absolutely brilliant Alka - completely smashed it πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

And 1:05 in this heat, with a minute’s break - you’re going to smash the one hour mark in the near future πŸ˜±πŸ˜„

So that’s you disappearing into the distance ahead of me as expected... oh well, the competition was good while it lastedπŸ˜„ I’ll now have to knock out a HM on Saturday to keep aheadπŸ˜‰ (only joking ju-ju, don’t worry!)

BTW... from your comments, your heart rate must be a lot higher than mine. Being an old git I keep mine well in check (just in case!), so although I’m tired when I stop after a run, I’m not usually conscious of my heart beating fast at all. You youngsters, eh?

And re that all-important β€œwatchband tan-line”... I swap my watch to the other hand, to even it out. Still get a whitish line on each wrist, but not as vivid/noticeable. Just a thought...

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to HoagyM

Thank you running buddy! Today was the first time I pushed my 7km happy pace. It’s become comfortable and wanted to see if I could sustain a faster pace. I did but it was hard! I think it was the heat that made it tougher!

Oh and I’m no spring chicken - 47 - so the heart rate was down to me going too fast! 😩😊 x

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Still 13 years younger than me, so I can definitely refer to you as a youngster πŸ˜‰

And yeah I’m fascinated how the β€œHappy pace” changes as you get fitter - mine’s about 7:15 now, but there was a brief moment towards the end of this week’s 10k where I seemed to find another quite different happy pace. Was pushing it at prob about 6:30, and I was β€œin the zone” and suddenly realised I was feeling like that pace was sustainable β€œforever” (my definition of happy pace). After a few more minutes I hit an uphill stretch and that was the end of that... but it was an interesting (and new) experience.

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to HoagyM

I’ve not tried apart from the 5k to push it. Now I know I can run a bit faster. Will be able to test it better when it’s cooler! Oh and what a few years between friends hey? πŸ˜‰

Ripcurlrana71 profile image
Ripcurlrana71Graduate10 in reply to HoagyM

Oh and good tip on the watch. Any tips on the shorts tan line? Gonna look funny with a swimsuit on! 😬😬

HoagyM profile image
HoagyMGraduate10 in reply to Ripcurlrana71

Not really - vary the length of your shorts? My tan issues are mainly golf-related, where the daftest looking thing comes from the v-neck of the golf shirts! Plus my left hand is always a lighter tan than my right hand, due to wearing a golf glove.

Wow, that is a cracking time! Well done!

My run this morning had a altitude increase of 152m!! There really isn't a long run, or even a 5k without hills! That's the way it is, but I am aware of how the same distance can be so much harder depending on the increase in altitude. Ah well! I shall have to be good and patient and slow!
