Come on. Motivate me.

My bonny little ParkRun barcode band has arrived. Yay! This has no relevance to my request but thought I’d let you know anyway 😂

So tonight, although I’d planned to go to the gym, I’m going for an outdoor run. I don’t particularly enjoy going beyond 5-6k, mainly because I get bored. I enjoy 5k distances. The long runs get in the way of my hectic life as a teacher and single mum. However I think I need to do the odd run 6k+ as I have a 10k in September. I’ve done 10k a few times but 💤🙄😂 Anyway the temperature has dropped significantly today thank goodness so I’m going to amble around the streets getting myself lost with no major route in mind. I’m hoping I’ll enjoy it more. Target: 6-8k. Wish me luck!

EDIT! Boom! 10k! 2 minutes off my PB too 🤗 thanks everyone ❤️

Go out and amble away!! Enjoy the scenery and look out for daft things you can tell us about afterwards - that means keeping it nice and slow and, well, ambly, really.

Have fun, that's all we want for you xx

Pretty urban so not much scenery but I’ll have a scout about!

Come on Tash! Think positive! Temperature has dropped significantly what could be better than a 6-8k run! You will smash it! 🏃‍♀️ Go girl!!

How do you go about getting parkrun band please!

All the best! Hope you have a lovely run, Tasha. And love the park run band - very nifty! x

You’ll have to get one 😂

Good luck. I always find not having a fixed route helps with the boredom - especially if on trails or roads you don’t know well and there’s a chance of getting lost. Hope it works out for you.

Thank you! I’ll update later in my main post 😂

tony_a also has the additional boredom-reducing incentive of wondering which toenail may blacken and detach itself inside his trainer. But that's probably TMI :-)

It seems a lot lot cooler where I am right now.

Have fun!!

Good luck Tasha, hope you manage to get round ok. 👍 I think it’s a good idea to do a few longer runs if you can, with the 10K coming up. On the other hand, just have a walk for some of the time if you want to. 🙂 As with everything on here, there’s no pressure and we’re all behind you cheering you on 👏👏

Awe thank you! I’ll update in my post later!

You may have gone but good luck! I find the 5-7Km bit often the hardest and then it comes back together. You may go further than you intended...

Sounds like you could maybe do with some spoken word podcasts or an audiobook in one ear for the long 'uns.

The wristband could almost tempt me to Parkrun.

Might try that but I’m a shocking listener!

Something about being on the move seems to help.

I think I’ll give it a go 👌🏽

I think if you find the runs boring you may need to admit that running is boring for some people. Either find a way to change that or start shopping for a pushbike. I know lots of people that can't run not because it is hard for them just that it bores them to tears.

Thanks for the encouragement 👌🏽

Sorry, not trying to put you off just appreciating that you may have found a truth. Most things are impossible to do long term if they are boring. Much better to realise as early as possible and find something else to catch your interest.

Yeah I know what you meant 😂 I think it’s time when I’m at work. School’s out soon though.,Tonight wasn’t so bad actually 👌🏽 I love cycling too. Not sure I get the same health benefits though 🤔

Funnily enough I've posted today that my brother was European champion in orienteering as a young teenager but packed it in because the pure running training he needed to do to stay in the GB squad was too boring... but he picked up running again over two decades later and right now he is in Denmark competing in the World Masters Orienteering Championship (and it isn't because now he can listen to stuff whilst he is out as he never does that)

I'm still working on swimming not being boring but doing a virtual challenge is helping - I'm swimming a river's length and I imagine where I'd be passing.

That’s a great idea! I keep entering races and am doing the race at your pace challenges. I think I must enjoy it as I’m addicted 😂 I just prefer 5k over 10

Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, both brilliant, different distances

Have a good run Tasha . Do let us know how you get on with the scanning of your wristband at Parkrun . It’s easier to wear than a card.

Well done you!! I love the little band. I’ve been thinking of getting one too for when I am back to fitness and can run again. But I am worried that I will jinx my recovery if I plan too far ahead. I already signed up for a couple of Virtual Runs in October and got told off by concerned daughter that I’ll push myself too far too fast. But I said I can always walk them if I’m not up to it by then. Hopefully should be ok by then ....seems so far away 😟

Tasha99Graduate10 in reply to limberlou

Oh dear, what’s wrong?

I need the band as run without my phone now as get everything through my Apple Watch. Used to hide the barcode in my phone cover. Secretly wanted a wristband anyway 😂

Went for a walk with my son and turned my ankle on a stone that rolled under my foot. Sprained ligaments and fractured a tiny chip off end of outer ankle bone. 4 weeks in a boot and on crutches, then 8 -10 week’s gentle walking...

Tasha99Graduate10 in reply to limberlou

Oh no! Running will still be here when you get off the IC 👌🏽
