Waterfall run in Portugal

This was a first for me ... a run to a waterfall, in the Algarve. It was HOT - well over 30C - so I was relieved to find it was almost all downhill on the way there, and I had the option of a lift back afterwards. It was 4 miles, and I drank a litre of water quite quickly after I arrived, and decided to accept the lift back to our villa. Too wimpy to get in the water in the photo, as it was rocky and uneven underfoot, but it was fun watching the young daredevils leaping off the cliff or jumping into the water from the rope swing. I headed back to the pool then a sauna at the villa ... bliss! I could get used to this! Sadly our last full day in such luxury, but still another 12 days of adventures to come further north ... :)

That sounds like a lovely run, and I’d have been with you on taking a lift home. Enjoy the rest of your hols.

Going downhill isn't too bad in the heat, but when I first got to the waterfall my sisters, who had driven past me half a mile earlier, were nowhere to be seen! And they had my water bottle! They had got lost and appeared 10 mins later, much to my relief. I really didn't want to run back up the hill without water :)

Oh that looks gorgeous, I would have been right in there, clothes and all! 4 miles in that heat is pretty impressive, AP. Enjoy the rest of your adventures. I love Portugal. xxx

It's my 1st visit here but hopefully not my last! Someone on this forum had suggested soaking a buff in cold water to wear on your head while running in heat. I tried that for the 1st time too, and it works really well for 2 miles ... after that it had dried out in the sun! :)

I am going to try the Buff trick on my run tomorrow, AP! x

Where are you going in Portugal? I was there last year and loved it!

I spent last week at Monte Agudo near Tavira. Just arrived in northeast Portugal on an organic orchard near Monsanto this eve. Beautiful countryside here and during train ride :) Will have 2 nights in Lisbon next week before flying home. Where did you go last year? :)

We weren't in typical touristy areas (Torres Vedras and Montereal). But there was so much to see (Mafra, Tomar, beautiful beaches). I hadn't realized that Portugal had so many world class historic sites. I hadn't heard of any of them and was well-impressed!

Sounds wonderful! I've been visiting some Portuguese castles, and been blown away by how stunning they are. And we have a lot of great castles in Scotland! Monsanto today - loved it! :)

Beautiful! I'd have taken the lift too but definately would have been in that water 👍😁

I watched my sisters and many other new arrivals struggling through the water on the rocky ground and my inner wimp kicked in :) If I hadn't had a swimming pool to jump in back at the villa perhaps I'd have taken the plunge! I did have to wade through the water to get to my vantage point so my feet got wet, but I wore crocs to protect my feet :)

Looks beautiful and idyllic run - apart from the 30c 😣!!

Even back home in Scotland it's regularly been 26+C this summer - bonkers weather! Might start soaking my t shirt as well as my buff before setting off to try to stay cooler!
