Update on injury

Well thanks to all you lovely people who have been trying to cheer me up since my fall yesterday. After 2 1/2 hours in A&E I am home again with a Compression Boot and crutches. Rest and boot for 7-10 days and no sports for most of July at least.

I have fractured a little chip off the end of my outer ankle bone and sprained the surrounding ligaments. Well done me!!! AND as I stumbled back into my house after A&E my watch strap decided to fall apart so my trusty Garmin fell to the floor. Just to add insult to injury!!!

So now not only will I not be able to complete my Race at Your Pace 50 mile challenge I signed up for on Friday .... I will have to also postpone my birthday reflexology appointment ( my daughters birthday present to me). I just cannot face anyone else handling that foot at all.

What with my deceased back boiler and no hot water I could just curl up and cry. But instead I am going to look on the bright side..... I know I can get myself back to fitness - look how quickly I went from Couch to 10k!! and I’ve already overcome my wheezy lungs, my dodgy knee, flat feet etc to get this far so I can do it again. And in the meantime I am going to catch up on my knitting, TV, reading, playing with my cats, and resting.

I’ll be watching all your progress from the Couch though so keep it up everyone.

Sorry to hear you are having such a horrible time at the moment. I don't know why but sometimes it really does seem everything goes wrong at the same time. At least the weather is nice so maybe you can spend some time sitting in the garden relaxing, sometimes you just have go with these things... take it easy, you will be back soon I'm sure.

Oh no! Poor you. I hope July flies by for you. Nurture yourself, indulge yourself, and treat yourself to some nice flashy lycra for your return to running. Hugs xx

Ideal. I’m up for that. What sort of thing do you read?

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to limberlou

Huge range..but....at the moment...some Welsh poetry...and a 'feet up...do not need to think ' Barbara Erskine.....favourite book..The Country Child..by Alison Uttley 😊

Oooh very interesting. I’ve just worked my way through some historical fiction The Cousins War series by Philippa Gregory, about the Plantagenets from the female point of view. And then I was trying to reread Lorna Doone that I last read about 40 years ago , but the trouble is the style of the writing. I love the storyline but Blackmore writes almost in a Shakespearean manner and it’s a bit heavy going.

I love science fantasy, historical fiction, vampire stories, anything about Dragons- Anne McCaffrey especially.

And at present I am watching the Outlander series on tv, I read all Diana Gabaldon’s books several times and loved them.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to limberlou

Wow...so many likes of mine there too..Anne McCaffrey..yes...!We shall have lots to chat about😊

Perhaps we ought to Messenger each other so we don’t bore the running community 😜

in reply to limberlou

I LOVE Outlander.

in reply to Oldfloss

Oh,how strange you should mention Alison Uttley, I was just thinking of reading A Traveller in Time again. I’ve loved it since I was young, along with Tom’s Midnight Garden (by Phillips Pierce I think) x

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to

Oh yes..... love that.... love it :) x I have all AU books... :) x

in reply to Oldfloss

Have you read Tom’s Midnight Garden? It’s one of my take to a desert island books, along with The Owl Service

I know a thing or two about injuries. So I feel your pain! Well done on staying positive! Better to heal slowly and surely, than going too fast!

Yeah I’m not going to rush into anything but I am not known for my patience I’m afraid !!! 😡

Oh Lou! 😕 I didn’t see your post earlier, and I was so sorry to hear about this - you poor thing, such bad luck. I hope you heal quickly. Do rest up and enjoy the sunshine. Running will wait for you, as will we. Big hug. xxx

Yeah I was really enjoying myself for the first time in ages with my new hobby. Oh well it won’t go away .. it will be waiting for me to continue when I am fit once more

ancientrunner profile image

Sorry to hear all that. Your Garmin is obviously fed up too. I suppose there is football and tennis to watch - for the first couple of weeks anyway.

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to ancientrunner

I think I’d sooner poke myself in the eye with my knitting needles than watch either I’m afraid. But I am binge watching Outlander at the moment. I have read the series of books several times and the series is very true to the books.

Oldfloss profile image

jeffbird profile image
jeffbirdGraduate10 in reply to limberlou

apparently so, I'm nearly at the end but it's already getting to be part of my routine. good luck with the knitting- we're off on holiday on Thursday and I usually start a new pair of socks. But I think it might be too hot this year!

limberlou profile image

Oh no, I feel gutted for you! But as has already been mentioned, time to relax, pamper yourself, and get better, enjoy your knitting (I love crochet too Oldfloss . Maybe time to try that limberlou?, something new) reading and catching up on tv. Do you have Netflix or similar?

Enjoy, but get well soon 😘

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to SandieF

Yeah I’m doing a bit of crochet at the moment using up bits and bobs before I start a bigger project from my huge yarn stash

Sorry to hear you’re in such a sorry state- it doesn’t seem at all fair when you’re trying to do yourself good! I hope you’re taking arnica pillules and/or using arnica cream. It does wonders for bruises and healing. Lavender is also good. Hope the boiler gets fixed soon- who needs hot showers at the mo, anyway 😉 . Wishing a speedy and safe recovery.

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to SW16

Ooh yes I’ve been applying arnica cream to all my bumps and bruises. Didn’t realise you could get pills too.

SW16 profile image
SW16Graduate10 in reply to limberlou

Boots or Holland & Barratt have them- tiny pillules you can dissolve under your tongue or in water to drink as and when. Can also help with pain relief. Hope you are less sore today.

Oh you poor thing. Speedy revovery I hope 🤞

Once boredom sets in I highly recommend checking out Caroline Jordan Hurt Foot fitness programme in you tube. Loads of workouts you can safely do in your boot 👍

Look after yourself and stay positive! 😁

Thanks

I’m topped up on painkillers so not too bad, just tiring using crutches just to make a drink or do upstairs for the loo.

icklegui profile image

Oh limberlou. It's rarely just one thing, is it! I really hope everything works itself out, as you know it probably will. I love your positive statement at the end, that you know how fast you went up to 10K from the couch! And TV, knitting, and the rest sounds perfect. I assume you can play with your cats from your resting position? We have one cat who will chase a laser/LED pointer and another who will settle for nothing less than you dangling feathers on a string and then running around so he can chase them!

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to icklegui

Yeah, my tabby girl loves to play catch and retrieve so she is easy to play with and my lazy Snow Bengal/ Birman X boy just likes to snuggle and trample my bosom , whilst simultaneously peering far too closely into my eyes ... bit sleazy really. So yes I can play with them while convalescing 😂

Poor you. Just catching this news now. What a shame. As you say, it's not all bad, feet up watching Jamie in Outlander is bound to cheer you up. Hey better soon Lou xx

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to

Yeah just realised the New: Outlander on tv is the one I watched on Netflix already - never mind he bears watching again 😜

in reply to limberlou

Well, you might have missed a bit! 😁😁😁

Yeah there were a couple of bits I had to pause and repeat... pause and repeat.. pause and .......

Upagumtree profile image
UpagumtreeGraduate10

Ouch; that’s really not nice! If you can still access your toes, what about putting nail polish on your toenails to cheer them up? Hope it’s better soon.

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to Upagumtree

Polish done - a lovely shade of coral at the moment. I have some fantastic duo chrome ones my daughter bought me previously so I might get those out too however as only one foot is on show it’s a bit of a shame. Have to do my hands too.

sallenson profile image
sallensonGraduate10

Aww, hon!! That sounds completely and utterly rubbish!! I reckon you and Oldfloss should set up a C25K Book Group during your down time. With NO running books allowed :-)

Keep us up-to-date on progress eh? You are going to flipping marvellous at hopping tho xx

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to sallenson

And my biceps will be amazing!! I’m full of admiration for anyone who has to haul themselves about on crutches permanently. My armpits muscles ache and unfortunately my left palm and wrist are bruised so that’s not helping but it also makes you supporting “legpit” hurt as it’s doing so much more work than usual. I am going to be so lopsided when I’m fit again. I’ll have to do hopping races on my mended leg to catch back up again.

Oldfloss profile image
OldflossAdministrator60minGraduate in reply to limberlou

Your arm muscles will be incredible... did they not give you elbow crutches,,, they are easier to manoeuvre...:)

I tore my Achilles tendon years ago and had three different plaster casts( they have to adjust the angle of your foot as it progresses:) My right arm, is much stronger than my left.. and my left leg.. the uninjured side.. fatter and stronger than the right... so..lopsided is definitely the way to be :)

I really hope you are feeling a bit better today... this heat ain't helping is it...and being on painkillers too..yuk. Have you a computer chair with wheels.. that can be useful if you could whizz around downstairs on it ?

Mind you your kitties would probably enjoy chasing you :)

Please post progress... and I will PM you to get updates if that is okay! xx

limberlou profile image
limberlouGraduate10 in reply to Oldfloss

Yeah I have elbow crutches but I think I jarred my shoulders when I fell

Look for me on FB and PM me -

Louise Clark and we can discuss books and knitting etc
