Didn't expect that when I got up this morning!

I still can't quite believe I ran a sub 30 min 5k - just! I've been beaming like a Cheshire cat all day, and still am :D

Maybe Mapmyrun was playing up, but I'm claiming it all the same. About a minute and a half faster than my previous fastest 5K too.

A friend entered me for our local 5K Race for Life next month, so I thought I'd see if 30 minutes might be possible now, rather than wait til the day and find myself burned out and walking the last bit of the race! So I really did push myself but luckily I went early when it was still lovely and cool. Took a new route which was gently downhill for the first part and that's when I got tempted; at 3K I was averaging 6 mins per km. The route started to gently rise so I had to try extra hard for those last 2KM and I'm sure it wasn't pretty :D :D :D

So chuffed! Has taken a while but worth the wait I'd say. Yay :)

This new hobby just keeps giving! I'm sure ju-ju's magic 10k program has made a big difference to my 5k attitude

I remember when you got yours I thought, hmm not sure that's ever going to happen for me now .... but never say never! I think it's Ju-ju's 10k plan that has reinvented my 5K and made the sub 30 possible. Thanks ju-ju- :)

Have to confess, I haven’t managed it again yet - injury niggles, holidays and hot weather all interfering with my running right now. Looking forward to getting back in my groove eventually!

Am sure you will be back in that groove soon enough. I have no intention of trying sub 30 again any time soon - certainly not before the Race for Life (which will be another first for me - running with lots of other people)!

Ju-ju's 10k plan has done wonders for my 5K - just imagine how fast you'll be going in a couple of weeks when you finish the program :D

Strava thinks it was a few seconds faster so I'm having it! No going back now :D

Being able to run 10K has changed how I feel about 5K. After just two 10K runs (plus the longer runs building up to them) , in my mind I now think 'it's only 5K', I know I can run further so I assume I have energy to spare. That gave me the confidence to try harder, not to get scared when I was gasping for breath and my legs were giving out underneath me :D Part of it will be increased endurance I guess, but mostly it's the gremlins in my head I'm sure.

It's amazing isn't it? I have spent most of my childhood and all of my adult life believing I couldn't run - started Couch25k at Easter and joined my local running club today :-)

Wow. That's so brave! Well done you. I was the same. Was sure I couldn't run and would never be able to. I started last Easter but it seems I wasted 56 years before then :D

Thanks. Well done on your Race for Life 10K too. I decided to stick with the 5K for mine as it will be the first time I've run in a big group - thought that would be enough of a challenge for one day :)

Hi linda9389, Wow! Well done you! I have had a read over some of your older posts. What a journey! Such perseverance after ic periods. So good to read of your progress. Thank you. I was going how far you ran at graduation, but your post grad prom run of 5k in under 32 minutes suggests to me that you have been a serious whizz for quite a while. I'm enjoying the scenery while running and although the idea of a sub 30minute 5k is very attractive that, if it ever happens, is a very, very long way away. Congratulations to you! I just went back through my stats. At graduation I was managing about 4.3k in the 30 minutes, not whizzy! My first 5K was almost 40 minutes - also not whizzy - but I managed to get it down to 35 minutes reasonably quickly. I then settled out at between 33 and 35 minutes (in between bouts of injury :D ). The prom run was a one-off, never to be repeated time - again I was pushing myself in beautiful FLAT, uninterrupted surroundings. I've been on the treadmill for the 8 weeks of Ju-Ju's plan and have only done a couple of 5Ks outside since then - 31'30s and then 29'55s. One thing I have changed is to be running before Mapmyrun kicks in (using the delay timer) - that has probably saved a good few seconds, but the rest is down to the 10K training I am sure. When I was at 35 minutes it seemed sub 30 was a lon,g long way off to me too, so never say never!

Thank you for that background. I do appreciate reading about lots of different running journeys, all so very interesting. Sorry I stand corrected you have not always been whizzy! Well done again! You are now! I wonder how you occupy your mind during your treadmill running. I run outside and enjoy the scenery. I have not yet moved my techy skills on to down load any podcasts. One day perhaps. All the very best for your onward running journey.

Ahh treadmill running! I hate it !!! I have watched music videos on TV, chat shows, rubbish shows ... I've listened to music on headphones, desert island discs podcasts (quite like those but it's a shame the archived ones only have snippets of music), the archers, comedy podcasts, audio books ... As you can see I haven't found anything that truly distracts me. Short runs are fine but the hour ten my second 10K took was tedious in the extreme. Happily my hip seems to be holding up at the moment so the treadmill is banished to the shadows and I will make the most of the fresh air and variety that outdoors offers while I can.

Good luck with your running distractons - listening to podcasts isn't too tricky, persevere and you will soon have the technical mastery I'm sure :)

Thanks. But your 50 miles - BEYOND AWESOME! I did consider the 25 mile one ... I just love all the challenges there can be in this running lar, and how many different levels there are too. But I need something between 25 and 50 :D :D :D

That's what I said to hubby this morning. 25 is not enough challenge but 50 was really pushing it for me. Its 4 5kms a week or a 10km and 2 5s every week . Thats a lot for new runners. I enjoyed it BUT I had some really crap runs just because I needed to get out and do the distance.

We just need to keep enjoying it. Whatever that means for each individual runner. I d love to be your speed, that is a long term goal but at this moment just keeping at it and smiling whilst im running is goal enough xx an official 10k event next I think 😁

Blimey!! Well done I’m still on 37:47 for my best 5k and haven’t even managed to get back to that again lately. I’m just relieved to have kept running in this weather. Will look at speed when it cools down

It's not that long since you graduated - it's well over a year since I finished C25K. But you're still running, and are already on ju-ju's plan! You're doing great in my eyes - no way could I have run that far so soon after graduating. As you say, one thing at a time and good luck with your 10K :)

I’ve graduated C25K last week and was wondering if ever I would be able to make it to a sub 30 5K, I’m currently at 4.2K in 30 mins. Your post has given me the belief never say never. Thanks!

Not sure if you read the reply I put higher up, but that's pretty much where I was at when I graduated. It's only taken me another year to get here (others do it much quicker for sure)!!! But what's a year in the grand scheme of things? Initially I wanted everything immediately; now I enjoy progressing towards each target almost as much as actually achieving it (I just don't get the silly grin until the very end :D :D :D )
