First time for everything

Well, last night’s run was interesting.

Firstly, I haven’t run in the evening before. It was a bit cooler, still 21deg, and there was a slight headwind, of course 🙄 I was amazed by the lack of traffic and also lack of other runners, and it wasn’t even England playing on the tv! It was a real struggle to get off the couch though and get out the door- I missed that early morning enthusiasm that I usually feel, more like grim determination. 😖

Secondly, encouraged by another’s post on here ( sorry, can’t remember who!), I used the fancy runner’s lacing technique. I definitely felt more secure of foot, and noticed that my left foot ( which over pronates more than the right) seemed to track better. I’ll definitely be using that in future!

Thirdly, got the shorts out for the first time this year- thats all I’m saying!🙈

Hope you all are managing to get out and run safely.

Well done on your first evening run and shorts wearing!!!!

I do a mixture of mornings and evenings and much prefer early morning! But with work and things getting in way evening is sometimes only option but I do faff around more before I get out door plus I sleep really badly after later runs with the increased adrenaline I suppose!😀

I found it hard to get to sleep afterwards, but had put that down to the heat! I guess I’m going to have to get used to running later, though this morning its 13deg- perfect conditions!

Was a bit worried about the heat for my third 30-minute consolidation run, I thought I might have to run it at silly o'clock, 5am BUT thanks to some North Sea haar (sea fog) and low cloud coming in as far as where I live it's much cooler at 11C so I will do that run just before 9 am.

they do say don't exercise too close to bedtime as it makes it difficult to sleep.

Well done! I find it really difficult to motivate myself in the evenings... and I know I need to give it a go over the next few weeks as I know I won’t be able to keep to my regular routine. Good to hear it isn’t too bad!

I thought most people were going the other way and trying to run in the morning when it was cooler :) Was 11c this morning at 5:15, it was lovely. I have been out in 20-25c but may make 20c a cutoff as it's just too hot to do anything more than a quick 5k. Congrats on getting the legs out, I have been thinking of going to the short shorts, but really they are a bit indecent lol.

You’d have to be very careful with your post run stretching! 😜

Yes indeed. Don't need to meet my breakfast again :P

It's funny but when I was doing c25k, all my runs were in the evening - partly because i did it in autumn and winter and hid in the dark! (which I don't feel the need to now). I can't remember the last evening run I've done - probably months ago. I think the couch potato gremlins are at their most active that time of day - so well done for beating them ;)

Excellent! I discovered another helpful tool. I bought some Karrimor compression ankle socks and they have a grippy section under the ball of the foot to stop slippage. I wasn't sure I liked it at first but once you have your foot in your shoe right it is actually really good 👍

Heel lock lacing is just brilliant 👍

Enjoy the sunshine! 😁

I am impressed! Not once have I managed an evening run; just cannot be arsed when I get in from work, but in the morning I am full of beans.

Re: racers’ lock. It came up in one of my posts! Tbae pointed out I hadn’t used on my new On shoes. I used to get a slight sore inner right knee on longer runs, I suspect due to mild over-probation on that foot. Since using racers’ lock, it has been fine!

I often run in the evenings. I prefer it. I got back last night at about 10.18 ish. I think my latest has been gone 11.00 pm. Light traffic on the streets last night too, which is always a boon 🏃‍♀️😃👍
