New shoes... and tripping on the trails!!๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜‰

Off in the warmth of a beautiful morning for a 10k in my new trail shoes. I say, 'new' but they are the third pair of Asics Fujitrabuco's which I have owned and they feel like old friends straight out of the box! However, I wonder if they have come up slightly bigger in fit as the toe box feels a bit more roomy (not a bad thing for those longer runs) AND I tripped a couple of times in them today!! The first time I so nearly went down but did a spectacular arm-waving-big-stride-recovery thing(!) which must have looked hilarious but managed to keep me upright!! Later in my run I was not so lucky. Running on a notoriously difficult part of my trail where the path is strewn with tree roots like steps in the ground, and despite telling myself to "be careful, take your time" etc - I still managed to go flying! Lucky I was able to break my fall with my hands and my landing on a dirt path (dry though it was) was a lot more forgiving than tarmac. Bizarrely, I had the rather sad presence of mind to pause my Garmin (yep, really!๐Ÿ˜‚) whilst I then sat on the ground for a minute checking myself over! Apart from a grazed knee and stinging hands everything seemed to be in working order - so Garmin and me headed off for the last 3km of the run - up over a hill where the sheep hide in the shade. They always make me smile as I come huffing and puffing over the top. Then the (wonderful) downhill and back on to the old railway line, across the recreation ground towards home. Such a lovely run today, despite the tumble and looking forward to a local 10k in a couple of weeks.๐Ÿ™‚ Happy running today everyone!๐Ÿ˜€

Lovely shoes!!

I can sympathise with you though as I had a tumble this week too! I tripped on a rock and landed on my nose!! Luckily it was a softish path so I got away with very minor grazes!! Think my first thought was oh no hope Iโ€™ve not broken my glasses and I better pause my Strava but I didnโ€™t do either and just carried on and had one of my best runs!!!! ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Nice to see you are a fan of those shoes, I also have Fujitrabucoโ€™s (6โ€™s) which I bought a couple of months ago when I ventured outside for the first time (I use Nike road shoes on the treadmill). I certainly found them different to the Nikeโ€™s (which of course they are), but am well used to them now. Hopefully the tripping bit was just on that first run, as you got used to them.

Thanks - I am sure they will be loved as much as my others, which have seen me cover many a muddy mile!

Nice shoes - glad you didn't come to harm. Shakes you up a bit tho' doesn't it!!

Fab shoes. Maybe thicker socks if the sizing is a bit big? I wear monoskin socks, but I have some Adidas ones for, longer distances and they are a bit bulkier in the toe, so something like that might help. Can you return the shoes maybe and size down?

Don't think they are actually too big Flick - same model and size I usually have. The toe box feels good. Shall lace up a bit more next time...and look where I am going!!๐Ÿ˜Š

I love the shoes, and I really feel for you. At least you're still in one piece and I hope the hands have stopped stinging now.

Well done for carrying on running, when I fell a few weeks ago now I was a complete wimp and ended up calling mr Razouski to come and rescue me. Glad to know you're made of sterner stuff than me. :-)

I did the arm waving, long stride, windmill thing to stop me falling on Thursday. Where do those tree roots come from? Got away with it, but am not always that lucky! Hope youโ€™re not too bruised!

I think itโ€™s just getting used to the new shoe. I tend to stub my right foot in new shoes til I get used to them. Like you say, almost as if the new shoe is a tad longer.

Ooo shoes. I've promised myself once I've got my house sorted I'm allowed some trail shoes, but it's so tempting to jump the gun seeing all these lovely bits of footwear about!

Sounds like a lovely route if you can avoid the tripping hazards! I fell a few months ago, on the side of the road where the tarmac was suddenly missing, and rolled into the grass verge. Luckily no traffic! Like you, I stopped my running app 1st before checking for damage to me! I discovered a collection of bruises, scrapes, and minor strains over the following few days - hopefully you will avoid such after effects!

One of the reasons I like the trails is that they are more interesting - this path can be awful in the rain with all the roots and the slippy ground - I like the challenge! It was totally dry yesterday however- just me and my big feet!! Feeling good today thanks apart from a bit of an achey back. โ˜บ

Watch that back ... I hadn't had back problems for some time til my wee trip and fall - then I got a niggle in the middle / lower spine after it, which didn't go away. Eventually went to see the doc who ordered an x-ray ... they diagnosed 2 spots of arthritis. But I hadn't had any symptoms before the fall! The good news is that it doesn't feel any worse now, months later - but I do back mobility exercises most days to help it along! x

Lovely new shoes! I like the colour. Take care though. I hate falling over - I still have scars from my last painful trip a few weeks ago ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
