ParkRun

First run outside for over a week as on hols I ran on the dreadmill. Well it went ok. 4 seconds off last ParkRun (in which I had to stop as kept too close to the nearest available pacer) so I was kind of pleased as it went a lot better this time! But I’m still only at 31:57. Yay for sub 32, but omg I feel like I’m never going to get sub 30! Our ParkRun is also 5.2k so I feel like I have extra work to do 😂

Well done Tash!

Got my new phone yesterday so will be interested to see what Strava measures my Parkrun as. When I ran in the school holidays with my son's phone and mapmyrun it said I'd done 3.2 miles (about 5.15k) and I went about 150m short of the usual turn round!

Not sure if it's to do with elevation? The village where I used to live has a 5k race every year and the course measures 4980m with a 20 metre climb? x

That’s weird, isn’t it?! I got my new Apple Watch today so I’ll see next week what that records. I use map my run and that’s what gives me that 5.2k measure each week. Let’s compare notes next Saturday 😂

Haha! If I make it back alive next week..... Pacers week and I'll be going for a PB 😂😂

I've read that the GPS in watches is much more accurate so it will be interesting x

Our pacers week is last Saturday in the month. Hope to be able to follow a sub 31 pacer by then 💪🏽 Pacers definitely help, don’t you think?

I'm hoping so! Last month I was still walking the first 5 mins so I didn't use them. We don't always have all times covered so I might have to decide whether to go with a quicker one and allow myself to slow in the last km or a slower one and speed up x

I keep the quick one in my sight but don’t keep up with them. Although last pacers week I tried too much and had to stop for a few seconds! Still got the PB somehow?! 😂 good luck!

Well Done! My PB involved a little bit of walking as well. I can run 4k quite fast but find the last km a killer. Hopefully now I've got Strava I might be able to pace myself better on training runs :-)

I’ve set Map my run to give me pace feedbacks through the headphones every 1k, it’s useful as I never know if I’m too slow or too fast!

Hoping to be able to do something similar as I'm sure I can go faster than my comfortable pace but when I try tend to go like a bat out of hell and knacker myself out! Just want to take 10-20 secs off my km pace to start with and see if I can still run the whole distance.

On a side note a former Gurkha ran our Parkrun in less than 28 mins this morning carrying 22kgs of kit - astonishing! x

Since having my Garmin watch I’ve become quite suspicious of my MapMyRun times. I thought I had done a sub 30 min 5K but I’m now nowhere close. I’m at about 33-34minutes. Was also less consistent before on MapMyRun. Could be as I am now running further in the week so perhaps my slower 5Ks are due to that but I do think your watch will be more accurate. To be honest when I (thought I) did the sub 30 minutes it gave me such a boost but I also then stopped thinking about time and started upping my distance and enjoyed the running more. So real or not it worked for me ☺️ I like slow and steady and this mantra will keep me running for years to come hopefully. I think you are doing great and it’s your commitment that you should be most proud of.
