Oh dear, another injury :(

For the last few weeks I have had what I think is Extensor Tendonitis, I’m not in agony and have still been running but it isn’t getting any better despite many stretching and rolling exercises. I have had this before and the only way to fix it is to take a break from running, depressing as that is I have to stop kidding myself and stop running for a few weeks or more. I’m not sure why but I went a for short 3k yesterday just to convince myself it was still there, yep it’s still there :( I shall be watching you all from the side-lines for a few weeks as walking and some yoga is going to be about my limit for the time being I think.

Get that checked out by a qualified physio, unless you are a doctor and know exactly what it is. Could be many a thing and treatments for different aches are, well, different.

You're certain the shoes are fine and had your gait checked?

Shoes and gait OK, had those checked some time ago, yes maybe a visit to a physio is needed. The strange thing is about this is the time when its least noticeable is when I'm running, it’s almost as though it loosens up, its very odd.

You might just need a complete rest. Three weeks seems to be the one for me 🙄. So frustrating isn’t it but sometimes we just have to sit it out for a bit.

You could work on your upper body though 😁💪

Yeah, my knee didn't really hurt when I ran, it hurt when I rested or walked. I carried on though and it suddenly ballooned, and that was a different game altogether...............

Yes thats exactly how its been, sometimes it disappears all together after a short while running so you tend to think, oh well I'll just carry on . . .

Oh please do look after yourself. A few weeks on the IC and a visit to a physio is better than doing permanent injury to yourself.

Working on core and upper body will be worthwhile while you rest those legs.

Hope it’s better soon.

Sorry to hear that orangeguy. I’ve been on reduced running while doing physio for my ankle and have missed one run a week. You obviously know how to get over this so rest up on the IC and we’ll see you back soon .

I went to the sports physio and it was £44 well spent as at least he could reassure me that running wouldn’t make it worse and the 4 exercises a day certainly seem to be working

Me too! I start physio on Monday. Like you I have no pain whilst running but it is really painful afterwards, often wakens me during the night. Greer!

Greer should have been "grrrr"!

Grrrrrrr indeed :( . . . it’s the worst sort of injury where you can still run I think, none of us want to take a break and it just encourages you to continue running, which being sensible is not a good plan.

I've been doing long walks, at as fast a pace as I can manage, to keep my legs moving. Whilst doing so I wear compression knee supports and they really help. I often wear them for a while during the day too when my knees are particularly painful. Don't like thus getting old lark!

Hope you are pain free and back running soon . . . I've been using a Lacrosse Massage Ball on my foot for the last three days, its early days but there is a real improvement, so fingers crossed, £6 well spent from eBay :) I am thinking a couple more days then a short test run :)

Might try that. I'm feeling a bit battered at the moment after my first physio session - think the cure is worse than the condition! Let me know how your test run goes

Have you tried your short test run yet? My physio has banned me from running for at least 5 weeks - what on earth am I going to do with myself???

Oh dear, sorry to hear that, 5 weeks is a bit of a while isn’t it, are you allowed to walk instead? I postponed my test run slightly, to allow a bit more healing time. I have been busy with the massage ball on my foot all week every time I was sitting at my desk and it does seem a lot better. My planned test run is going to be a steady 5k first thing tomorrow morning so I will soon know whether I have fixed it or not, fingers crossed :)

Fingers crossed for you tomorrow, hope it goes well. Yes i can walk and he also said cycling was ok but i'm a bit doubtful about that. Can also use my cross trainer but it's so boring! Might try swimming next week or maybe i'll just stay home and sulk
