Hello all. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their running!

So questors, how is it going? We would love an update.

This is Week 3 of our Move and Make Miles in May Quest. It’s not too late to join, everyone welcome! The Quest will run through to the end of the month, with weekly Monday update posts throughout.

What the Quest is;

The Quest takes one calendar month . You can join any point within that time.

The aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are completing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice. Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.

Wishing you a happy healthy month x

I didn't achieve much last week, but this week I am onto my Garmin HM plan, which tells me what to do every day :) So I have been back to my gym - hooray! - and running again. I'm only on short runs to start with, thank goodness, as I have put a lot of weight on and it's making a difference especially in this heat. Bah. A bit mixed therefore.

Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

Mixed is better than not at all Annie! Dont be hard on yourself, you are doing great!

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Aw, thank you for the encouragement :)

Have run every other day, mostly short (sub 2k) and mid range (up to 5.5k) runs this week, though last Sunday's 4k was almost all uphill, some of it steep and long. The elusive second 10k continues to escape me, largely through lack of opportunity. I was going for it yesterday but forgot to use my inhaler, so had to cut the run short at just under 1.5k. Never mind. I feel strong enough to do longer than 10k, 5k seems a doddle now - it's just a matter of catching things when I've had enough sleep and no other demands on my time.

Blimey Flick very brave running daily! Good to see you are enjoying it!

in reply to Millsie-J

Not daily, just every other day :) I would like to reach a stage where running daily is safe but am scared by horror stories of torn calves and ruptured achilles :( My legs do appreciate the rest, especially after runs of more than 7k. Loving it though x

Sorry I mis- understood your post. I think every other day is a great approach for us slightly more mature runnersπŸ˜€

in reply to Millsie-J

I think it will happen, but I'm cautious, so alternate days for now :)

This week I have had to prioritise family health issues, hospital visits , treatments etc. So not many runs. However, i have been working hard in the garden so have had almost daily core work outs, even if its been at 6:30 am if thats the only time available. It surely has to count in some way? Veggie patch fully planted up now too πŸ˜€

I hope all is okay x

Definitely gardening counts! I mowed my *lawn* for the first time last week. Honestly, I could have taken nearly a bale of silage from it, it was so long! I was sitting there that evening wondering what the matter was, was I coming down with some deadly bug or virus because I felt really sore and achey and my middle was hurting. Turns out that my abs were all a-quiver :D

Thanks Annie. The good news is since all of my physio exercises and daily walks/runs through March and April, i am moving really well and few aches afterwards πŸ˜€

I think my quest was too easy. I've only got 10k left to run to achieve a marathon in may and still 15 days left to do it! Should have thought that one through a bit more. Perhaps next month I should try for two marathons. I wonder whether one a week is possible . . .

You are doing brilliantly PP! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I added in an extra tempo run last week and managed to get a new pb at parkrun so it may have helped πŸ™‚. Picked up a proper running cap instead of what I was using before which feels more comfortable in the warmer weather. Hoping to do some intervals tomorrow but suffering a bit with hayfever today so will see.

Work has really got in the way this week (SATs tests and evening meetings = some 12 hour days) but managed a gruelling 8k, a fairly speedy (for me) 5k and some decent intervals. Not sure how a seeming improvement in form goes with feeling knackered after work - but I happy to go with it! Am hoping to attempt another 10k at the weekend (geel the need to prove the first wasn't a fluje) but need to find a decent route.

It was no fluke! Enjoy πŸ‘πŸΌ

Got hit with a nasty cold last week that kept me home from work for a day (unheard of for me!) so didn't run at all last week. Did a short run on Monday but chest was tight and the park I was running through had just been sprayed with pesticides that made breathing more difficult yet. Did get 2 miles in though. Planning on another shortish run tonight and hopefully a weekend run so should get 3 runs in this week 🀞

Sorry to hear about the cold Sask. Sounds like you are slowly getting back into it again. Hope this next week is a good one.

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to Decker

Thanks Decker. Slowly but surely, I'll get there. Did get a 5k run tonight, but no beer at the end of my run, just a soccer pitch and many, many mosquitos 😧

Decker profile image
Decker in reply to SaskAlliecat

You will. There is no doubt of that. Oh mosquito season! Its not here quite yet but I know its coming. Maybe we should keep a cold one ready in the fridge for the long runs. Only problem is my runs are all done in the morning. 😁

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to Decker

It's 5 o'clock somewhere right πŸ˜‰.

I've been running in the evening while my son is at soccer and it's been quite weird for me. I'm such a creature of habit, so running in the morning, nice and cool, barely anyone on the paths, running the same route all the time. The soccer pitch is in the middle of my route so I'm now running in the evening, in the heat (26 C yesterday), with lots of people on the path, and running my route backwards. Nothing like taking this Type A personality out of her comfort zone 😁

Sorry you have been unwell Sask, but the running sounds as though it is going well again.

Am thrilled to say I went out today and ran 11.18k. I was beginning to think i would never do another 10k after the first. Just beautiful running round the country lanes, up hill and down dale. i am blessed.
