but people say the posts encourage them - which is one reason I put my runs up here; plus I wanted to report on the knee support I mentioned in my last post.
I've become a c25k evangelist! A couple of people on the Facebook group Run Mummy Run are doing c25k and feeling isolated and unmotivated and I've pointed them in the direction of the NHS c25k forum. Then today a cheery chappy wearing a London Marathon t-shirt asked me if I was going for a nice early morning walk. I explained it was my warmup walk before running. He looked sad and said he had started running and wanted to enter the London Marathon but had had to give up because his knees were twinging. Turns out he had just launched himself full pelt into running , no preparation, no gradual buildup. So messianic me told him about c25k. Ha! What a bore i'm becoming.
Anyway, the run. Weeeeell ... I was going for a half hour run but, stupid pillock, I forgot to use my inhaler so was out of breath. I curtailed it at 2k as I needed to be back to take the dogs out and the run was taking too long. However, first time ever with short sleeves. A bit nippy to start with but I soon warmed up. Lovely hazy morning too, with the sun looking like a pale gold coin behind the pine trees by the leisure centre.
Now for the knee support: in a word, brilliant. Thin enough to go under my leggings, but cool enough not to make my leg sweaty, and it gave fantastic support. If anyone needs a knee support I can really recommend this. Details in my previous post. I was using the Boots one with the velcro fastenings and the hole for the knee cap before. this is so much better and no kneecap hole which, as my left knee is just scar tissue over bone, is way more comfortable.
That's it folks. This is also my first post for April Quest. Now to do my roots with cassia.
Nice post Flick. I've not been posting on here about all my runs either, but as you say it does give encouragement to others. And that guy that launched into running without any gradual build up - no wonder he had issues! I remember doing a 10 minute treadmill run a few months before starting c25k, and apart from almost killing me it made my knee hurt for 3 weeks!
Great post. My only other attempt at running was just like the guy you met. Nearly 20 years ago now but just went out and ran. Gave it up as too hard after about a week. C25K is such a great thing and it’s brilliant that you’re spreading the word.
Thanks for your kind words Tony. I have to admit, if my daughter hadn't done c25k ahead of me, I'd be none the wiser and would have made the same mistake myself
Too late, he is gone and i don't know how to contact him!
Shout it from the roof tops! I am!! I’m a total C25K convert and advocate and this forum is part of that 👍🏻 well done on your run too, glad your knee support’s working for you 🤗x
Brilliant! I'm so glad the knee support works for you! And how fantastic that you are selling C25K wherever you go I was about to write something rude about the poor failed marathon chap but I take it back because there must be many people who launch themselves into running, full of enthusiasm, but without the proper build up are bound to fail. That's sad The more people we can convert to the cult the better!
How would people know how to train for running? I had wanted to start running again, but if my daughter hadnt done c25k, I might still be dreaming about it, or thinking it would have to be in my next life! Yay, brothers and siaters, spread the good word 😇
The knee support is really good. So much better than the bulky Boots one x
