Well I did nine miles today and it was tough going, could easily have called it a day at the two mark as I was already labouring

Today though instead of that little demon sat on my shoulder it was my grandad sat there telling me come on lad you’re a Walker and Walkers don’t give up and he’s right we don’t

So nine miles it was followed by some stretching and a very welcome hot shower

Onwards and upwards and happy running my friends xx

Those miles are piling up. What a star, I feel a fraud only doing 10k today. Need to up my game.

This is great training progress you’ll smash the half and full marathons for sure

I think your 2018 is pretty wonderful and a heck of a target

in reply to rolysmate

Thanks you will smash June for sure. You are working so hard to do your training. It’s an impressive achievement.

Well done that man.

Getting to ten miles for the first time can feel hard work, but it does get easier if you keep at it.

Are you refuelling? It is crucial for runs of that length.

rolysmate profile image
rolysmateGraduate10 in reply to IannodaTruffe

currently using raisins starting at about 3.5 miles and a drink 2/3rd water 1/3rd orange juice with a pinch of sea salt

rolysmate profile image
rolysmateGraduate10 in reply to IannodaTruffe

does my refuel sound ok, new to this

IannodaTruffe profile image
IannodaTruffeGraduate10 in reply to rolysmate

It all depends how many raisins you eat!!

I am no expert at this and it is trial and error to find what works for you.

I prefer dates to raisins.

Fantastic rolysmate! 👏👏👏 brilliant job. I’m a bit sad as I couldn’t get out today there’s so much snow and drifts that I would have probably fallen flat on me face in a snow drift and got lost forever🤪🤪 ! hee! hee! and I’ve only been 60 for two weeks. 😀😀

Anyway well done and happy running🏃‍♂️

Nice work rolysmate! To get through nine miles is quite tough even with nice dry weather. You did it in the snow and you should be proud. 👍🏼👊

Well done! Great job 💪👍😁

I did an 18kmtoday and took a power flapjack as per a recipe IP posted on here a while back. Someone asked me for it a few weeks ago which I did so it’s here somewhere. You could make a batch, wrap each one in foil and put in a Tupperware box in the freezer I just take a frozen one out with me. It’ll be defrosted when you come to eat it I also took six haribo’s Which keep you sort of hydrated. I didn’t take a drink with me so having a sweet to suck on meant I didn’t feel thirsty. I was going only slowly cos of the snow so wasn’t gasping at any point 😜

rolysmate profile image
rolysmateGraduate10 in reply to misswobble

Thank you Miss W will look for that, currently I take a handful of raisins with me and mix a drink up which is 2/3 water 1/3 orange juice with a pinch of sea salt.

Might next week (11 miles) try dates as suggested by someone and see how I respond

Well done on the 18km, no mean feat

Great run, Mr Walker; you’re an inspiration. Well done for digging deep and keeping going, especially in that weather. Your Grandad would be proud of you.

He was a coal miner working on the coal face also a champion body builder of his time and was known by his fellow colliers as Lion Walker and not a man to be messed with though a quiet, calm man

He stood his corner and stood up to bullies and was much respected within the village he lived in

Me an inspiration well if you say so and thank you for your kind words

Rolysmate you are an inspiration.

Keen to know if this photo is pre or post run - looking remarkably fresh after nine miles if that's the case.

Post 5k run from me would be too scary to post. 😂
