After running on my own for close to a year now, I joined a casual weekly running group via the local MEC shop. Very nice group of people and a rather fast group too. I got my 10K PB of 1:02 today just trying to keep up with them! That is four minutes faster than my 10K race back in November! We did about 11.5 KM in total. Was a good cross-section of experienced runners and less experienced people like myself. I think I may have been the oldest one there (certainly the greyest one πŸ™‚). Will definitely be joining again next week.

Nice! That will be a new experience, running with others regularly. Sounds speedy and will increase your pace like you'd mentioned wanting to do in the past (now that you've got the HM distance in your back pocket πŸ˜‰).

Yes its definitely a new experience running with a fast, young group. On my own it was easier to talk myself into slowing down. I really don’t know if I can keep the faster paces as the distances increase. Maybe over time. Interestingly, the heart zone for this run was almost all 4, with me chatting away to another runner the whole time. Normally I am moving into the 5 zone quite a bit on my own. Weird.

It'll be nice letting someone else figure out the run and route for a change. Maybe they'll do some different type of runs, like Sandyscroll experienced, which could open up a whole new world of training. Regardless, sounds like a fun change as long as all the runs aren't a stretch speed wise.

Definitely looking forward to some of the ravine runs they have planned. This morn was too wet down there, so I had to laugh when we wound up running through the same cemetery I run every week. Every week is different from what I’m told, so it should be fun.

That’s so good, loads of people benefit from a running group. I tried it once and lasted two weeks πŸ™

Haha, I’ve been a lone runner for so long it was very strange. But these were some really nice, down to earth people which made all the difference. And its a very casual meetup too with no real rules either, which I like :)

Sounds great Decker! As SaskAlliecat says, it added lots of variety to my running when I joined the club. The speed they run at and the fact that they chat constantly all through the run were the 2 things I found different too. My new goal, rather than being a pace or distance, was to be able to chat effortlessly and run at the same time! Enjoy, and don't forget to share some of your club run stories with us. πŸ˜€

Yes, agreed on all points here Sandyscroll. Also very inspirational to be running alongside ultra marathoners and people training for iron mans :) Hopefully I’ll be able to keep up in the coming weeks πŸ™‚

That's great, it will challenge you and bring you along even more! They will know different routes and they may well incorporate different types of runs and exercises. Excellent - enjoy!
