Another 10k run.... yeah!😊 No Strava recording..boo! 😒

I decided today was the day for my W6 R2 of Ju Ju's 10 is the magic number and that the run would be 10k! 😊 (with the option of switching to 5k if there were calf issues)

It was chilly but not too cold and I was soon warmed up and stripping off my gloves. It was the same route as my 9k last weekend but with an extra loop at the start and finish.

I have Mapmyrun lady telling me every half k and realised she had gone quiet again...at 1.3k I paused for a sec and hit resume workout and carried on with my run...but she was no longer interested..my gps was gone.😬

Bit disappointing, its not every day you run 10k (and if you're me only the second time I've attempted it!) and I would have liked a proper record of it.

At the halfway mark by the church I restarted Strava, got location working again and Mapmyrun lady onboard. So a few seconds rest I suppose.

The 5k back is always easier and today was no different, nice loose legs a slightly longer stride than the first half and I knew I would do it. Counting up to 5k took some of the pressure off and I knew my recording was blown so had no incentive to try to break any records. A nice easy run back in 41 mins on top of the 5k already run... so not too shabby...

Although not totally run non-stop I am taking it as a victory and have learned that catching your breath for a few seconds is no bad thing...I enjoyed the 5k run back and wasn't all in at the end.

I am going to take a week off now, I am ready for a rest (although I do have a 5k run outstanding from Ju ju's planπŸ˜‰) and then will do some nice shorter runs for a while...

Happy running and Good Luck to everyone on a challenge😊xx

Well done Jan, but no recording means it doesn’t count, you’ll have to do it again next week 😜πŸ€ͺ

Thanks Jan. a 3K run on Tues should set me up nicely.

Seriously though, I’m so pleased for you, you really do deserve it...just a shame about the tech failure, it’s happened to me in the past πŸ™„

Well done, I also use MapMyRun lady. Great achievement, I'm hoping to make it end of March or early April.

Brilliant well done, and I so hate it when tech fails....... I have regular breathers in my runs, it means I can enjoy the views and take piccys etc.... 😎

Your trail runs look lovely Ju...my roadside run not so muchπŸ˜†..

Thank you.xx

Your plan is so good I've done it twice..

Really well done Jan! I feel for the tech faff tho, I’ve messed my tech up more than once, even today forgetting to stop the timer πŸ™„ sounds like you enjoyed it all the same. Have a good rest too.

Yes thanks Jan. It wasn’t a race for me, just training, but I marked it off 😁. And I took Tuesday to Fri off and had a good run today. The rest breaks really do seem to help sometimes.

This fabulous Jan.... go you :) You re doing brilliantly... and what a super run despite the lack of Strava:)

We know you did it...and in style too.... Very well done my friend xxx

Oh thank you Floss..yes, I do know I've done itπŸ˜†...that roller was very handy after all the stretching. It's funny, I felt a flutter in my right leg as I stopped to check the recording, then started again with the left leg leading and everything felt fine after that!

The return 5k felt very good. I don't have your lovely scenery though.

Just following in your footsteps 😊xx

Well done Jan, more big boos to the technology. How did runners manage before gps and apps I wonder? With a stop watch round the neck, a street map and painstakingly measuring routes with a piece of string I guess (that's measuring with string on the map, not a really, really long piece of string trailing after them as they ran).

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

Ha, what a great image πŸ˜‚...how long is a piece of string...We're going to need a bigger ballπŸ˜„....

Thank you L-L, maybe I will look at those zombie runs next for something different...😊x

Thanks Jan, I really do. It was exactly what I needed. We had a few great days skiing, albeit very cold and then put on 350 km on our snowmobiles in incredibly pretty terrain over 2 1/2 days. It was wonderful! And I got some new merino long underwear top and bottoms to help with the cold. Wow, did it help! They just may become part of my winter running gear as well.

Enjoy your much deserved break!

Ha, thank you Millsie...yes I was planning it for quite a bit of my run today..'if I get this done...'πŸ˜„

I may still do that 5k if I get itchy legs, but not for a few days...

The good thing was, having to stop for a bit really improved the feel of the run!

Well done, Jan.

Having lost my running watch, I am now finding it quite liberating not having to bother about that side of things, but can quite understand that when it fails on a special run it must be annoying.

Keep running, keep smiling.

Yaaaaay the 'unknotted' 10k. That sounds like a really super run. Especially the final 5k. What a pain Miss MapMyRun was playing sillybuggers. Your legs will have done all the recording you need thoughπŸ˜‰

Ha, not for a while I thinkπŸ˜‰....

I may go for 10 for a Star Wars themed virtual run on May 4th!

Thank you😊x

Well done. But what a pain about the lack of record. Ive had that happen to me, but through user error, so ive recorded swims or treadmill instead of outdoor run.

Ha, I am in awe of you all for keeping your distances up and running faster and further...and intreguied by the idea of the zombies run...trouble is I'm much slower and they are bound to catch me!πŸ˜„

Really inspired by you, Sask and Langley-Looper, who are punching out even longer distances week in week out...😊xx

Well done Jan! I share the pain with your highly annoying tech fail....I had to (you know.....I just had to) buy a Garmin watch in the end as I couldn't stand MMR/Strava cock ups any more. Any excuse! :)

It's a rather lovely feeling knowing that you can do a 10k any time you feel like it (well, within reason!) :) x

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Fishypieface

I wish!...these old legs are feeling it tonight. I'm looking forward to some 30 minute runs, and maybe a few of the c25k+podcasts for a while 😊...

Hmmm a Garmin, I do have a birthday coming up..

Thank you and Happy running😊x

Fishypieface profile image

No, my legs weren't keen either, but it does seem to get easier, both the run and recovery - with each new 10k I complete. I'm out tomorrow for one, so now it's bound to be hell on legs!! :)

Yay, well done! wretched Mrs. MapMyRun, though, where was she? What was she doing, taking her attention off you when you needed her? I had this problem with Mr. Endomondo so I ditched him, kindly but firmly, explaining that I didn't mind him seeing other people when I wasn't running but I needed his full attention when I was out, and flirting with others when I needed him just wasn't on. They are very fickle :(

Have a nice rest, and then you'll be ready to go again :)
