I met a man with seven wives

For those not familiar :)

As I was going to St. Ives,

I met a man with seven wives,

Each wife had seven sacks,

Each sack had seven cats,

Each cat had seven kits:

Kits, cats, sacks, and wives,

How many were there going to St. Ives?

So for run 2 of ju-ju's magic runner plan wk6 I tackled the 10k again for the second time. As the title suggests my run is generally from my little village along a forgotten rail line and through the wetlands of the st ives flood plain to the old town and back crossing the sluggish and aptly named river ouse.

I found a little more pace this week and managed to knock 5 mins off my PB (albeit this was only the second time I have done 10k) and found this to be a nice clean run with a fairly constant 6:20 pace which dropped a little near the turnaround but upped to 6:13 and 6:15 for the last 2km so potential there for a 1 hour time with a bit of training I hope.

At 6km I turned to the left and looked over at Drayton lagoon glistening in the starlight with the plough reflected in the deepening indigo waters, then as my eyes trained right I saw Orion in elney lake with his arrow pointing homewards to my village on the horizon.. it was unadulterated magic. I am a magic runner.

Thanks ju-ju.

you'll be surprised how quickly the pace improves. You will get much quicker as you get stronger, i'm sure of it :)

You certainly are a magic runner, huge well done to you, and what a fabulous time too...... when I first saw the picture I thought I didn’t recognise it, then I realised you are in a different St Ives ( my mum lives very near St Ives in Cornwall...!!!)..... 😺

Thankyou, yes the poem is meant to be about the St Ives in Cambridgeshire reputedly. The Stives in Cornwall is gorgeous too though, albeit I found the Tate a bit naff :)

To further confuse, we have a St Neots (not St Neot) and a Cambourne( not Camborne) nearby lol

when did you visit the Tate? They have got loads more works more recently and i think its loads better.... although the staff are all a bit affected...

Was last summer, we did a week in cornwall. Got a mixed bag on the weather so did the tate as it was a rainy day. They had a pottery exhibition on and some pollack style paintings which just didn't do it for me. The cafe up the top was alright and I imagine it's great when the light is there. We were staying the week at a little place called burngullow near st austell.

Now I recall, it was my second cornish adventure as we did a weeks sailing on the amelie rose out of falmouth. It's a lovely scillonian pilot cutter and we were meant to sail for the scilly isles but got windlocked so instead we noodled around the south coast for a week.. was also magical. The boat was in a tv series called two hungry sailors or such like with dick strawbridge and his son. topsail-adventures.co.uk/

Wow thats so exciting. I grew up in Falmouth and my mum lived for 20 years in Scilly. Its a beautiful ( and incestuous) place, and that boat must have been amazing!!!!

Sounds exciting.. not the incest bit though lol. I really like Falmouth, so much so we went back last year. Also drove round the other side of carrick roads to st mawes to catch a fraggle and visited the old gun fort at st anthony's head.

I spent a fair amount of time in the grapes with a weather eye over the harbour :)

I will be back there again I reckon under sail definitely ;)

Just spotted that I managed a PB for the 5k on this run too at 31:30, no idea how that happened.

That looks a super run and relatively flat ? Your time is fab. I can only dream😴😴🏃‍♀️Of getting to that stage ! What’s your secret?😀😀

Stunning good looks and a rapier wit ;)

Only joking, that time came as a surprise to me. But I think as we are all new to this there are huge gains to be had performance wise as we are all fumbling around with no idea what our true capability could be, give it a year and we may be struggling to get 5 seconds quicker, but at this stage there's probably lots of untapped reserves. I'm not trying to get quicker, just trying to get a cleaner running form though, where I feel stronger through the core and legs. I find if I push it too far then the breathing gets ragged at the end and the shoulders drop forward and I end the run looking like a broken nag. Just trying to avoid that really :)

Hee! hee! I know just what you mean (my stunning good looks I’m on about) 🤪🤪

When I run I too find that towards the end if I push too hard my shoulders drop forward and I can see my shadow (if the sun is shining obviously) leaning forward. So for me that’s my goal,to improve on my stance.

I do wonder also if being sixty could have anything to do with how knackered I get sometimes when I run. Some days are better than others.Or it could be about where I live .hills, inclines etc.

I think I’ll have to go some place where it’s nice and flat, then perhaps it will improve.Happy days!😀😀
