Hi Questers, how are we all doing?

This is the last week of the January Quest which will finish next Wednesday. Cold, icy weather can make fitting our running in a challenge and we are rising to it, but need to take care on those slippery surfaces....

Let's enjoy our running and meet our personal targets and goals this week.๐Ÿ˜Š

What the Quest is;

The Quest takes one month . You can join any time, within those weeks.

The main aim of the Quest is to help you find a focus or goal that you would like to achieve by the end of the Quest period.

I ask that you will be a Graduate to join the Quest. The main reason I ask this is that while you are doing the programme, your plan is very structured so I wouldn't want the Quest to interfere with that.

Most popular goals are:-

To run three times a week

To slowly increase distance

To train for a specific race

To add In Stretch and Strength exercises

As you can see they are personal to yourself and it's totally your own choice.

Each week, I will pin a new post where all the members of the quest can talk about how things are going.

So if you want to join, all you have to do is put;

I would like to join the Quest, or, count me in and then, I would like to. ..............

Your name will then be added to the top post and every week your name will be in the quest until the end.

At the end of the Quest, there will be a certificate that you can download to keep.

Wishing you a happy healthy week

Morning all!

I managed two runs this week, missed the planned third as my physio did some manipulation and therapeutic ultra sound again, which meant I needed to rest my legs a couple of days.

Yoga is ticked off

Physio daily exercises ticked off

I havnt managed my pilates but have had a massage on the legs.

All in all a good week๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Last week was a write-off all round, predictably so. As far as my Quest goals went, I rested on my laurels of running somewhere new the previous week.

So, 10 days left to complete my other goal of getting back to running a 6k, so I am looking carefully at my schedule to plan it in and not leave it to chance.

Planning is good.

I am planning another visit to Run Forest :)

Three days of January left...The new quest will start on Thursday...๐Ÿ˜Šxx

Got my 6k in yesterday. And on new territory (Totley Moor). Perhaps a bit too new really - cheerfully thought I could see a path continuing straight. Very glad that I turned back after a few minutes as later inspection of the map showed that I'd got myself into nothing more than a long wet deep ditch.

BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Yay! Well done GoogleMe, I knew you would complete your goal๐Ÿ˜„...and with a day to spare!

A 6k run on an unchartered route, good job you changed your mind about that path!

So Quest completeโœ”...certificate will be posted tomorrow and a new Quest starts on Thursday..๐Ÿ˜Šxxx

I only got 2 runs in last week and wasn't able to reach my 16k goal this week as planned due to slipping on the ice during my second run. I've got some pretty colours on my hip and have to sit sideways. I did get on the elliptical last night which felt ok on my hip and a few squats in. I'm a little too overwhelmed right now to follow Rig's squat challenge to a T but got 3 squat days in. I figure every little bit helps.

I'll be leaving Thursday after work heading north for a much needed snowmobile trip with hubby and am on call a couple nights this week so will only get 1 run in on Wednesday. The forecast is calling for quite a bit of snow, but hopefully I can get my 16k run finally done ๐Ÿคž. I figure if my legs are sore after, I've got 2 long days on my machine to rest them ๐Ÿ˜

Good luck with that run on Wednesday Allie, that was a nasty fall you had...listen out for any niggles in your hip and adjust your distance if you need to.xx

Snowmobiling sounds great fun... ๐Ÿ˜Šxx

Oh dear sorry to hear about your slip on ice, sounds painful :( Like you, I am finding the squat challenge too much at the moment (the thought of doing 30 is putting me off!). Your trip sounds exciting - have fun!

SaskAlliecat profile image
SaskAlliecatGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

So, once again the weatherman was wrong. We didn't get any snow, it was just below freezing with a light wind so I went for it! I went to the city pathway in hopes the ice wouldn't be as bad, put my slip on spikes in my pockets and went for my run. Hip felt good, there was random patches of ice so there was lots of starting, stopping, walking around icy patches or mooooving very sloooow on the ice, a few pauses to put on and take off spikes during larger areas of ice, but I did it! I ran 16k finally. Yay! I wouldn't say it was my best or most enjoyable run, but it was far from my worst. My legs were more tired than usual and my pace was all over the place but managed to complete it in 1h 50min. One more goal to check off โœ…. I'm a happy runner ๐Ÿ˜Š

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to SaskAlliecat

You did it alright Allie!

Wow, that shows how truly determined and tough you are๐Ÿ˜Š So impressed with this, nothing was going to deter you and you reached your 16k target... you wanted that very much I think๐Ÿ˜Šxx

You have definately completed your Quest running challenge.. so, now for some fun time relaxing on your snowmobile weekend... rest up and enjoy yourself. QUEST COMPLETE.๐Ÿ˜Šxxx (with flying colours)

Thanks Jan. Looking forward to some hubby and me time. Looks like they got some fresh snow up north so should be fun exploring a new territory

Only two runs during last week for me..a 6k and a 3.5k, but I have been doing Rignold's squat challenge. I hope to get my 5k and 7k in this week...

Happy running everyone๐Ÿ˜Šx

Did my 7k run, so happy to be working steadily through Ju ju's 10k plan again.

A little 4k recovery run on Wednesday I think๐Ÿ˜†x

I'd like to join the quest too.

Want to continue with Rignold's squatting challenge and also tie-down my half marathon training plan for mid May HM.

A big challenge Lordi... but one you are up to...๐Ÿ˜Š

Squats will help I think!...

Anniemurph profile image

Skwaaats...

And my gym. Although there were even more people in it today. How very dare they?

Running? I did a fab photo-stop run last week, and a couple of other runs, and I went to the National Running Show, which must count for something! It was a bit disappointing though.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

A National Running Show!.. is that like the ideal home exhibition but for Runners?

Interesting... any bargains๐Ÿ˜†...

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to Bluebirdrunner

It was a bit disappointing actually. Luckily we all had free tickets :) I did order a medal hanger and saved the postage, and found the right Vibram 5-finger shoes (but didn't buy them) - oh, and got free laces because I was the first person who had turned up to try in toe socks :D Other than that, most of the big shoe names weren't there and all the gait analysis and injury clinics were booked out all day. Apparently the talks were good, but we didn't stay for those.

I ticked off my ( possibly conservative) Quest objective today and ran over 6k. I'm also Meeting my other objective of running at a slower, pretty easy pace for most of the runs.

All good! ( even the weather is improving).

Nothing wrong with exceeding your expectations... nicely done.

Bodes well for the weeks ahead!

I am still on track with my January quest. I completed week 3 of the Zombies, Run! 10km pace improvement plan. It's an eight week plan and my target is to shave 60 seconds off my 10k time by the end. At the end of week 3 I had shaved 59 seconds off! The question is, can I get rid of that last second and repeat it more than once? Only time will tell...

I've been out running with the club every Wednesday plus my 10k every Saturday. I only managed 2 of my 3 runs last week as family needs came first, but I should be back on it this week. I keep practising those fartleks as the club showed me too. I'm beginning to see a tiny pattern on the graph between my faster lampposts and my slower ones. ๐Ÿ˜€

Ahhh unfortunately Flynny has spent the whole weekend in hospital again. I was up to 38.5 miles but going to fail now as I canโ€™t take him out for such a long time as itโ€™ll affect his chest x

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to MrsT82

Oh. so sorry to hear this๐Ÿ˜ฎ..

I think that 38.5 miles is amazing and no doubt you would have met your target...It's not a fail, it's adjusting to circumstances...

Take care of Flynny and yourself. ๐Ÿ˜Šxxx

skysue16 profile image
skysue16Graduate10

My January quest has completely failed :(

Mostly because of an iffy ankle which feels sore even walking briskly or doing strength exercises, my excuse for not doing those squats ;) but also due to holiday visiting family so lots of travelling, extra hours at work and also had a family member visiting last week and very tricky weather! So I decided to stop everything, rest my ankle and start afresh with vigour......but not sure when!!

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to skysue16

Sorry to hear you're having an issue with your ankle Sue, and it sounds as if you have been very busy too...

I had a niggly ankle a few months ago, rest sorted it out and I hope the same applies to you.x

I know you will be back out running soon, well rested and with new targets.๐Ÿ˜Šxx

Went for another c25k + stepping stones run tonight. I didnโ€™t choose the stamina or speed one as I was quite tired I thought it was better to stick to the one I knew. Enjoyed the run towards the end but hard going at the beginning .

:-))

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to bsimonuk

I really enjoyed the Stepping Stones podcast. Starting slowly with those quick, short steps was good training for me and helped me get over the toxic ten. Laura is lovely to run with too!๐Ÿ˜Šx

DebJogsOn profile image

Had a great week last week with a gentle 30 min pootle on Tuesday, a 30 min stepping stone run with Laura on Thursday and a 35 min stamina run with Laura on Sunday - in the (sometimes horizontal) snow! It did rather make looking ahead and not at the floor (as often instructed by Laura) a bit difficult. Really enjoyed this run on a new route though and was soooo close to having done 5k - but hadn't thought I'd run that far and given the driving snow had just tapped my tracking app to stop it and didn't look properly at it until I'd finished my cool down!

Feeling very good though and really think the C25K + podcasts are helping me improve. Posted on C25K forum about the new me - who I love - but I do worry that she's becoming a bit smug!๐Ÿ˜Š

Happy running this week everyone.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to DebJogsOn

There's nothing wrong with feeling proud of yourself, this program is all about self-belief and acheivement, and I think we all feel a bit smug on our warm down walks ๐Ÿ˜Šx

Happy running...5k very soon...

Manage Lauraโ€™s stamina podcast today it was great and I felt I could have run even longer when it was finished! Iโ€™m pretty slow, am going to do the speed podcast for the shorter runs. Maybe one day I will jog pass a walker ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Well the first four weeks of January are over and I have successfully completed my quest to run the first four weeks of the Zombies, Run! 10k Intermediate Plan, designed to improve 10k pace over eight weeks.

It gets a bit heavy going for the next four weeks, featuring two 13km runs, eek! I may have bitten off more than I can chew with these zombies.

Bluebirdrunner profile image
BluebirdrunnerGraduate10 in reply to Langley-Loper

That's brilliant news Anne..Go you.. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Those zombie runs seem to have kept you entertained and running well!

The next quest will start on 1st Feb, so two days time...

Well done on meeting your challenges and completing the quest. There will be a certificate on Wednesday. ๐Ÿ˜Šxxx
