The most amazing run

β€’7 Replies

Today a strange thing happened. After a full on day at the chalk face, on my feet and exhausted when I got home, I reluctantly tied my laces and resolved to go for a short run of 15 minutes or so.

Instead, as I got going, I felt myself warming into my stride and thought "What the heck, I'll give my longer route a go". As I ran along, I realised that after ten minutes, my feet weren't feeling achy and heavy. This us surprised me, as they would normally be protesting by now. So on and on I went, all the while finding the experience challenging but..... dare I say.... exhilarating!

Without wanting to sound too "out there" I felt a new kind of energy and the sensation that in spite of being worked hard, my body was enjoying being stretched and I started to feel a sensation of everything coming together to propel me onwards. I really can't put it into words, but I can honestly say that tonight's run was my best ever.

It wasn't fast, but a PB for me and it is the first time I have nearly got to 5k (4.8k) without walking!

Consequently, I have been on an insane high all evening! Since upping my game to 2-3 runs a week, it would seem that my body is responding and showing me that I am getting stronger. There is so much that I have learned from the posters on here, and thank you all for your wonderful advice as I make this journey.

I feel stupidly emotional, but tonight meant a lot to me. A few weeks ago I thought I had almost lost the ability to run for 20 minutes solid, let alone 30. Tonight I ran for 40, so that's a first.

To anybody out there who doubts themselves or who thinks they are losing their mojo, get back on it! You can do this. If I can, anybody can.

Happy running, people. πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

That sounds lovely. I've found my last 2 runs a struggle so this is motivating to read.

not stupid emotional at all! It's real. It's passion. Consider that a success! When you feel that kind of emotion about your run, you're doing it right! Congratulations!!!!

What a wonderful feeling when everything falls into place resulting in a great run. Sometimes going out with very little expectations can result in a great run because you're just doing whatever feels right at the time. Well done. Here's hoping for more glorious runs!
