Cold, fresh 10

Has been a deep freeze here for the last week, but we had another blanket of snow last night which seemed to warm the air a little. It was -10 when I headed out this morn and it was a bit difficult to breathe through my balaclava ( forgot I even had one until today). I wound up taking a couple of short breaks to catch my breath and munch on a frozen energy bar. But overall it was really nice to get outside again and run in the fresh air.

I'm glad your cold snap has ended, but will admit to being a wee bit jealous of your outdoor run. Our cold snap is still going strong - daytime highs of -30C before the windchill, but it sounds like it should break by next week. I've had enough of the treadmill and being stuck indoors. Hoping to be able to report on a decent outside run soon.

Oh that is fierce cold. Hope it snaps soon for you. We are back to -20 or so for the rest of the week, so I just grabbed the run while I could today. Still haven’t done the second 17. My Asics plan is out the window with all the weather delays, so Im just going to start another one.

That's good you were able to take advantage of the "nicer" weather today (oh how that has become a relative term lately, where -10 is a nice day!). It really has made following a plan challenging. I managed to do a 13k and 8k run on the treadmill but am hoping to get outside for a 14.5k by the end of the week. I saw runswithdogs in Calgary got out for a short run when it was so bleeping cold, but I haven't quite worked myself up for it. I should've took advantage of the lack of wind at my father-in-laws while we were visiting. Oh well. I drank and ate waaaaay too much to think about running 😂. Don't fret on bailing on your plan, you've got time before your planned HM. Lots of time to get a pile of miles in.

Yep I knew these months would be the most challenging when I first began the C25 back in the summer. Good that you got some longer runs in on the treadmill. I’ve yet to try one of those out. Hope you can pull off your 14.5 this week. I also had my fair share of indulgence in the food and drink these last few days. Was just happy to run. My HM plan was pretty loose, just to keep busy over the winter, so the shuffling is fine by me. And the next plan finishes up just before the Chili Half in March :) which reminds me I need to sign up for it before the prices jump in Jan.

You're cutting it close 😆.... better get signed up. That'll help keep the motivation going. Hopefully the new year will bring in nicer weather!

Yep, too late in fact. Realized reg closed on the 29th. Will have to cough up another ten bucks now. Oh well...🙄🙂

I know, I have it easy compared with that!

We're currently at -29C with a windchill of -42 but the sun is shining so we're all sitting in the sun inside like a bunch of cats 😸. The good news is this is the last day according to the forecast! We are supposed to warm up to more reasonable temperatures by tomorrow! Yeehaw! I'm so excited!!!! I'm going to get outside again for some much needed activity!

Yeahh! Finally! I remember visiting Ottawa a few years back with the kids and us trying to skate on the Rideau on their coldest day on record. It was -40 with the windchill. We lasted about 15 min! Could not feel my toes. So I can totally sympathize. Hope you get those much needed outdoor miles in this week!

Positively tropical in your neck of the woods today. Glad you enjoyed your run and dug out the balaclava. Winter runs are great for feeling alive, and you have to enjoy the good days before the weather dips again. Happy running.

Lol yes was thinking about you and Sask longing for these temps when I was out this morn. Hoping your side of the country warms up a bit soon.

Looks amazingly fresh and cold! Very well done you!

I am off out in a moment...dark, and a balmy 8 degrees!

I did.. just a slow and steady 3K, but not too shabby for the last run of the year:)

Happy New Year you xxx

That sounds like a perfect way to close off 2017. All good things to you for 2018 as well Floss 🙂

Well done Roger !

The snow looks absolutely beautiful , it must be so hard to run in though

Massive Respect to you for getting out there ! :-) xxx

Decker in reply to poppypug

Thanks Poppy, 🙂 The snow was light and fluffy, and not icy yet, so it was easier to run through. My route was mostly plowed and salted too. And my Sauconeys have surprisingly good tread grip 😀Only the breathing through fabric bothered me a bit.

I said it before and l say it again - complaints against the British weather should be criminalised. Niagara Falls freezing over and a frozen shallow edge in the pond near where l am, are hardly the same thing. Well done for running at all, bud. Then again, knowing me, I'd do the same. :)

Haha well I think its like anything else, we just get slowly used to our circumstance and adjust accordingly. I think most people would do the same over time. I really feel for runswithdogs and SaskAlliecat as they are stuck in -30 conditions where its not totally safe to even go out.

Total respect to you getting out in the snow and -10. Running in snow is hard work. I count my blessings I did my 5k in +10. Happy New year and good luck for the HM.

Thanks Kate. It was no big deal really. I was just happy to get outside finally. Was getting a bit cabin crazy being cooped up too long. 😀 Edit: oh and Happy New Year to you as well Kate. Wishing you many happy miles in 2018.

Wow! My hat would be off to you except it's bloody freezing here also and I am keeping it on :)

That's hard core running man - well done! :)

Haha! I only step out when I think I can handle it and it was pretty nice really. My buddy that does Iron Mans, went out for 21k yesterday in -20 like it was nothing. That is hard core man! We went sledding with the kids and only lasted around an hour or so. Hoping this cold snap will end soon, but it does not look like any time soon.

I seriously don't even want to get out of bed this .morning - I have the thermostat set on 67F but it's still freezing :)

I hear you. Yep this guy is on a whole different plane than mortals like us, but he is so down to earth and encouraging, he makes it seem possible to achieve these things. One day at a time, one step at a time, right? Makes me realize each of our journeys and challenges is completely unique.

Haha hey you get your share of sloppy cold weather too! Its getting better as I learn to dress for the more extreme weather too. Our cold snap is still snapping but tomorrow we are promised snow and much warmer air, so I pushed my ling run off till tomorrow morn.
