Race report, 10k today

Race report, 10k today

Like a couple of others on this forum today, I've run in my first 10k event. Mine was at Highclere Castle, brilliantly organised by Newbury Athletic Club.

We arrived a bit too early, my husband and I, and had to sit in the car for a while after collecting my race number and chip. At that point, I was getting nervous. Not helped by the race announcer saying 'at least 95% of you have run this course before'. Aargh!

It was a lovely morning though, sunny with some cloud, not too hot. I set off towards the back of the field. It was a lovely course around the castle grounds and estate, passing right in front of the castle at one point. It was quite hilly, up and down fields where the grass was quite long (tricky) and woodland paths, some tarmac'd roads as well. Lots of lovely support from the marshalls.

I wasn't last, by a good 5 to 10 minutes I think. Husband was there to cheer me at the finish and take photos of me with my medal. The medal is lovely, very substantial and heavy. There was also a free runner's water bottle given out at the end.

My time was 1:16:59 (that second being sooooo important!) and I'm ok with that as it was hillier than where I usually run. I feel great and have just had a celebratory glass of prosecco. Cheers!

Nor me although I've still yet to do my 10k which I'm hoping to do in May if not before. I'm able to run over 9k so nearly there and I think maybe I shall run to keep fit and many 10ks or maybe a little more will do for me.😀😀

Rest now and ......

Happy running😀😀

Well done, Joy! Sounds like a great run and a good time. I think you're very brave, considering you had never run 10k before.

Thanks. I wanted to do it because a) the location sounded lovely, b) I wanted to do a 10k before the end of the year, and the one my daughter signed us both up for at the end of August was cancelled and c) no-one there would know me if it all went very wrong!

Well done Joy! I've run that race (2 years ago, I think). And, yes, it is hilly isn't it. But beautiful. Should have been a lovely early autumn day for it today. Congratulations on your first 10km race... hopefully the first of many.

It was beautiful Marky. Probably not the *ideal* course for a first 10k but hey, I did it! :)
