The slowest 10k ever :)

But it is done :) My second run at 10k and although I can't say I enjoyed it- I enjoyed some of it.

Assisted by cooler temperatures, a pleasant breeze that blew water from the trees on to a sweaty jogger beneath. Hampered by mud and farmers ploughing too close to the footpaths (Grr) and by constitutionally little legs. I have eaten an omelette for breakfast and have a warm glow of satisfaction :)

Ooh - helenwheels - I am trying to not want to run as far as 10k but I so much enjoyed your post, especially the omelette. Vicarious enjoyment is quite nice though ... 👏👏👏👏👏

Haha. Thank you for the applause x

I didn't really mean to run further but have accepted that speed is never going to be my thing. So it's just gradually been increasing and then I thought, I think I can go a bit further and a bit further, I am completely knackered though 😴

Come on Gillma.....you know you want to 💪🏃‍♀️👟

C'mon Helen, we all know that slow is the new fast, don't we ;)

My 10K was epic! To an untrained eye from a distance I may have looked like that slo-mo cowboy falling off a horse, arms flapping, legs akimbo.

In the end l pirouetted over the line in around 70 minutes but felt fresh and untroubled, l think that's the point.

Isn't it great that we could do that distance and not long ago our lungs were like u crushed Tesco bag after only a minute of running?

in reply to mrrun

Haha. I like the image your post conjured up 🤠 Did you run this morning too?

I am amazed (and very happy) that I can run this far 🏃👍🏃‍♀️

Hehe, l tried to make it as nice as possible. No, I'm spinning around on Saturdays, that's my distance day. Imagine poor families witnessing that in my local park?

PS. You need a new badge mrrun

I thank you but it's not that simple ;) I will only claim it once I'm fully comfortable at 10K, currently there are lots ups & downs. I'm waiting for the ups to succumb the downs, hopefully in a month or so, no rush :)

in reply to mrrun

I was queuing up for mine as my toes crossed the line!

👍 well done for doing another 10k and for coping with the mud! Cool breezes really help -I don't like running in too much heat.

Thank you Sue. It is good to see the landscape changing too. There was a deer out this morning, a month ago it would have been hidden in the crops but today it was there, in all it's glory.

Haha you should be. Pleased ,that is 😀👍🏼

Well done Helen! 10k does feel like a long way at the moment but it will feel less so when you run them more regularly. It is similar to when you started out, 5k was the elusive distance yet now 5k is a nice run out. 10k will feel easier the more you run it. I too find some runs nice runs and others are tough in places and nice in parts. The important part is you stuck with it and achieved the distance. I bet you will be grinning all day!

I know, I need to remember that. I have felt physically really tired today, like I might 'drop off' at any moment. Reminded me of when I started running 5ks, which now (though not easy) are my 'go to run' 3 times a week. At the end of the run I was a bit further away from home than intended and so had a 2k cool down walk, I realised I was being hard on myself about speed- so gave myself a pat on the back instead. 5 months ago, 90 seconds felt like a long run :)

Thanks for the encouraging words.

Very well done! I'm so envious, I can only dream of 10k at the moment - like you I realised quite quickly I was never going to do quick so I am slowly increasing distance instead. I'm up to 7km and keep secretly telling myself not to push myself too far, who needs to run 10k but part of me also thinks ...mmm, maybe it would be good to have a goal! Well done for inspiring me to get my arse in gear (once I'm back from a short walking holiday in Yorkshire) and push myself a bit more ... slow and steady though 😉

I did 8k one time and then just thought- Go for it, if you have to stop at 8 then that's still ok...

I'm sure you can do it if you just go slow and steady as always :)

Mind you it was a mistake to wear heels to work today :( achey

Enjoy your holidays in God's own County....
