Week 6 run 2, and I broke the 10km barrier :-)

It was a good morning for running, cloudy, breezy and a very light drizzle at times. I decided to take the run at what ever pace I felt comfortable with rather than trying to take it easy and slowly. After the last couple of speed runs I've done I know I can run faster, slow down, recover and then get faster again. Confidence is a great thing.

So, off I went at a blistering pace... but I soon settled down to something that felt more comfortable. I didn't look at the running watch at all until near then end when it said I was 85% finished - I didn't even have it set to the screen that tells me pace, time and distance. I spent some time trying to figure out what 85% of 60 minutes was, then it buzzed for 90% - easy, 6 minutes to go!

I got to the end of the hour and looked at the watch again. I'd reach 10km in just 250m. Seemed rude to stop now. I kept going until the next junction and... wey hey! 10.07 km in 1:02:10.

Back home I've looked back at my lap times. My slowest km was the one with the long hill so no surprise there. My fastest km was the last one! How did that happen?

I don't appear to be suffering any ill effects apart from my black, bulgy toenail (must phone the podiatrist today) and a slightly achy knee. I took a naproxen and it seems to feel better if I keep moving it, of if I walk on tip toes.

So, I've got my first Park Run on Saturday, a short speed run calendared for next Tuesday and then the race, and B210k w5r3 on Sunday. I feel far more confident about it now :-)

Well done to you! That first 10K is very special and that's a brilliant time too 👏👏👏

It'll give you loads of confidence for your race and you'll probably be faster on the day!

Faster on the day, we'll see. There are hills on the route, slightly bigger ones than I'm used to. Who said Norfolk was flat?

Those are the ones you remember.

Congratulations.

Well done - a real achievement and a great time! I tried to break the one hour twenty mins that it's taken me to do 3 10k runs now......really thought I had done it on Sunday, I felt strong, the conditions were good... even felt like I would bust it completely but no... still the same. Have to accept that's my best and the best is not too bad!!!!! Good luck with your training plan :)

Thanks :-) I was pretty shocked at the time really. I had been going much slower prior to that run.

Thanks :-) My biggest worry is that I'll take a wrong turn or something and end up on the wrong part of the route. I'll just have to find somebody to follow who looks like they know where they're going! I'm sure it'll be well signposted and marshalled... but I've no sense of direction at all so there's every possibility I'll end up in Wymondham instead of Norwich city centre!
