Thank you everyone who has encouraged and advised me along the way. Today I did it. Tissington Trail, Ashbourne 10.

Very wet, windy, acres of mud. Out and back route which was uphill all the way out - Oldfloss thanks for the heads up, which meant I was not phased! My, it surely tells on the calves. Thank goodness I am used to running hills, that's one advantage of living in a hilly area. It was at least downhill on the way back, except for a shortish rather steep up and down, which got us both ways!

No crafty walks, I ran the full 10. Not fast, in fact very slow. But I am so pleased that I did it given the tough conditions today.

So I have achieved my aim of my first 10k race before my 60th birthday, which is just 10 days away now. I never dreamed in July 2016 when I started C25k that I would ever run this distance.

Now I need to consider what I may aim for in the autumn πŸ€”. Mmmmm.........dare I ????

Absolutely brilliant Jacs-W and what a race to chose for your first 10k! Brave woman! Lovely pic of your hard earned bling too. Rest up well now, you deserve it! πŸ˜€

Thanks Sandra. To be honest I picked it thinking it would be flat!

Never the less, it was great! Good luck with your HM next weekπŸ‘πŸΌ

Terrific stuff, well done. Trails are tiring at the best of times so you did really, really well in a hilly mudfest.

Dare you? Yes, of course (whatever it is).

Lovely bling too.

Thanks Dunder, I am tempted to move towards 10m but am going to be sensible and get some more 10k runs under my belt first.......But maybe for my next birthday perhaps teehee.

That's brilliant Jacs πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘. Sounds tough but you did it. And that is very lovely bling, the first of many methinks 😊

Thanks rwd, I had you with me as promised, hope you enjoyed the mud.......it was a quiet route too x

Except for the cheering at the end right? Mud sounds so difficult, I'm impressed.

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to runswithdogs

At least the deep puddles of (cold) standing water helped wash the mud off along the way πŸ˜ƒ My perfectly purple shoes were a not so perfect mud colour at the end ....... I've cleaned them of course πŸ˜‰

Slow and steady will win this race. Isn't that how we completed C25K? This time last year I couldn't even run for a bus. I can't believe I even think about getting quicker! Just shows how far we all travel on this journey πŸ˜€

Fantastic! Well done on your first 10k. I have my first 10k in June and it has a two lap route with an incline which has me worried, though not a hill!! Sounds like you did a great job. Enjoy celebrating your well deserved bling.

Fantastic achievement, and beautiful bling to go with it! Well done :-)

We had a holiday up near Ashbourne a couple of years ago so walked along a very short section of the trail. Lovely place :-)

Im thinking 10m for next birthday, then maybe further the following year.... even then it would be three years ahead of the cut off we mentionedπŸ˜€, unless ...........

Booked another 10k for May! Will get that distance nailed then probably look for further distanceπŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸΌ

I love the Tissington Trail for a 10k but have yet to brave right to the Ashbourne end (and I go when there's hardly anyone else about). Well done you.

Lovely bling too although not sure Anniemurph would care for that picture of a tunnel...

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to GoogleMe

Its lovely there, but much nicer when its not hammering it down! There is a tunnel under the town, then a little further up you come to the end of the trail, at the far end of the Leisure Centre car park. Thats where we started and finushed, so ran up to Tissington and back. Its a route im going to do in the spring for sure!

Because of the weather there was hardly anyone other than runners πŸ™„

Hmmm... you have me thinking...

I have to say that probably my greatest running expense is all my various parking permits (Derbyshire County Council, Severn Trent, Peak Park Authority, not to mention a little pile of Chatsworth parking vouchers and my National Trust membership) but I think the Derbyshire Dales resident one will be good there if I time it right?

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to GoogleMe

I'm not sure but there is four hour free parking in the Halfords car park 150m up the road , nudge nudge wink winkπŸ˜‰

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Not that you are saying I'm slow or anything! Haha. Or at risk of detouring to the sweet shop in Tissington....

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Yes - up to 11am and after 4pm no problem. Or you can park on the road a little way up and walk down ;)

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to GoogleMe

Ha! I am getting a little braver with the tunnel :O

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

I don't think I would like the tunnel if I was running alone 😳

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

Were the horrible spooky train noises running while you were in it? They are awful :( You get halfway through and a train starts up - then it whistles. I hate it.

GoogleMe profile image
GoogleMeGraduate10 in reply to Anniemurph

I should be fine, I'll have the company of Google who is brave (not) - she looks to me for reassurance in the tiny tunnel on the Cromford Canal.

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

ooooo no, no trains thank goodness!

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10

Well done, Jacs! Great achievement - I live not far from the Mapleton car park so this is my home trail, and it's a slog running up to Tissington, especially in the rain! The down-up is a killer as well! I love the medal :)

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Anniemurph

You are really lucky living there, a perfect route for your longer runs!

Anniemurph profile image
AnniemurphGraduate10 in reply to Millsie-J

I am really lucky because I can get the bus up to various points and run back down. There's a 10k bus stop and I am now eyeing up the next bus stops near the Trail to see when they might be manageable. Glad you had such a good time, and congratulations again :)

Well done! Hoping to do a10k in June but not confident!

Millsie-J profile image
Millsie-J in reply to Lorna9339

As long as you put the training in you will do it. If I can with my extra weight anyone can. I used a Myasics plan to help me get there, but also used Sami Murphy on those runs as a starting point but then began to drop the walks. Get that calf right first though πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸΌ

Thanks Floss. At the 4k point when the incline was really getting to me I thought of you, Bazza1234 and davelinks , - slow and steady but attack the hill, think of your technique etc. You were a noisy lot but you got me to the top! πŸ˜€
