No, using a treadmill is not cheating (in my humble opinion). Yes, it is different from running outside and in some ways easier (no wind, holes or uneven ground!) But as you say - you are running and 5k! Well done :)

Ps try increasing the gradient

You're being too hard on yourself!😊

Just different....:)

I love outdoor running, but recovering from broken ribs before Christmas , my cross trainer was a real help ( no resistance). It kept me fit and sane :).

Recovering from the dreaded Lurgy after Christmas and during the absolutely dreadful weather, again, came into its own ( with increasing levels of resistance and incline).

I think if you accept the difference and adjust, as skysue16 says, the resistance as you move forward, it is still challenging. I find, going outside again, challenging and yet feel stronger because of my indoor training.

Go you!

Running is running, it doesn't matter where you do it. Don't forget that the treadmill is used by elite athletes for various training sessions, so you're not alone 😊

Oooo.. I like that idea....I am going to pretend that I am an elite athlete, the next time I go on my cross trainer :) Thanks your majesty!

I haven't been outside for a couple of months now as I find it hard to run in the cold.

Having the treadmill indoors means that there aren't any excuses for not exercising.

If I didn't have it then I would have to force myself to go outside to keep up my fitness.

It has more than paid for itself over the past few months.

It's a useful tool to have and it's still exercise, keeping you fit.

I still find it a struggle to go for long sessions, anything from 30 minutes to 50 is ok but then I lose motivation. I seem to get aches in my right thigh/groin area after a certain time and small blisters on my right foot but only if I run for over an hour. Strange.

Today I did 1 hour 41 minutes total with 75 minutes running at a slow speed of 5.2 mph, just over 10k.

I felt like stopping but said to myself "you're not tired just carry on going".

So enjoy (I can imagine some people shuddering) the treadmill runs and then go outside when you can.
