I came down to the Isle of Wight yesterday to visit my Dad, and was determined that I'd still get a run under my belt. Worried that the gremlins might follow me down the M3, I stopped off at Decathlon in Southampton while awaiting my ferry, and bought an extra ankle strap for my good foot and dome supportive running socks.

I was looking forward to a run in warmer climes, and set my alarm for the morning, expecting to awake to glorious sunshine (ha ha). The morning brought glorious...freezing fog...and subzero temperatures and I was tempted to stay in bed, but I reluctantly got out, got kitted up and got started. The first patch of ice was as I came down the slope of dad's front driveway and I was tempted to truth round and go back to bed.

But something in my head spurred me on and soon I was running along the cliff path to Shanklin. I couldn't actually see the sea, but it was nice to be so close. I then took a road down to the sea front and ran along the sea wall into Sandown taking a brief pit stop when I realised a gremlin had followed me, making my ankle support so tight it was cutting off the circulation to my toes. It had to come off. With the sound of the waves lapping the shore as an accompaniment to Sami I continued on my way, with the feeling gradually creeping back into my left foot. The hardest part of the run was coming up the steep slipway and steps to get me back up to the cliff path, and although I was attempting to keep running, my steps were so small and slow I'm surprised I was even moving at all.

Eventually I was back on the cliff path and headed for home, where a treat awaited me. My dad had got a breakfast of croissant and pastries warming for me.

Well done! Are you going to be staying there long enough to get a chance to run the same route in sunshine?

Unfortunately not, as I'm leaving Wednesday morning early. I will have to do it again the next time I visit.

Well done, that was some determination! It am in Southampton and it was bitterly cold this morning. I was out walking the dog briskly and my hair hanging over my shoulder was full of frost!! There were a few runners out but not many. I imagine your gremlins got back into bed lol.

That the next time I come here I get some warmer weather, or at least better visibility, so that I don't have to rely on memory and imagination for the view. 😀

This freezing fog is not easy, is it? My car had no frost this morning, but my daughter's driveway was like an ice rink!

Well done! one of my favourite spots there but not so nice in the fog, i've been down there when is started snowing last year , that was fun! Hope you have a nice break and have a good time at your dads. I'm off work today with the lurgy but been dog walkies earlier and that fog was still thick!

It's nice to give my dad some company, as my mum died 18 months ago and he misses her dreadfully sometimes, and gets lonely. This afternoon he took me up to the Heights for a workout. He's only recently taken up going to the gym, but is hooked, as he wants to get fit for his other new pass time - kayaking- which he only started doing in May this year at the age of 81!!!

Your situation sounds similar to mine,my lovely mum passed away last May and I know it's hard for my dad. He's active too like yours and cycles most days and swims at west wight. And he's 81 too. ...

It's good that they are keeping fit,bet he is proud of your running 😊

Thanks Tomas , the croissants were definitely the "icing in the cake", so to speak, although I hadn't realised my dad (aged 81) was just buttering me up so that I would go to the gym with him in the afternoon. 🙃

I was definitely tempted, but I knew it was the only chance for a while I would have of running by the sea. 🌊

That's also only my first run of Week2, as week1 took me two weeks to complete having been on th i.c. Hope your runs are going well Davoda .

But it used to be Razouski Land, as I was also born and brought up here, which makes me a Caulk Head. 🙃

I was worried that my pace was a little slow, but thought it was ok because of all the hills and slippy bits, so thanks for the encouragement.

Well done for not turning round and going back in to the warm!. The island is a lovely place to run. This morning was really cold wasn't it tho? Altho where i live in Bonchurch it was bright sunshine despite being only a few miles around the coast. Hope you have had a good time visiting your dad.
