Fog and puddles

I worked from home today and really didn't move much (only about 1000 steps!) so by 6pm I was going crazy. So... I plucked up the courage to go for my first solo night run. I promised my husband I'd dive into the hedge to avoid any cars and went off on a circuit of the lanes around me which I thought was about 5k.

Somebody on here a while back described night running as being in a little cocoon of light - how right that is. it felt really calm and 'zen' just with the sound of my breathing and the thump of my running shoes on the road.

So far so good... At about 3k I started downhill towards a bridge over a small stream and I suddenly realised that I couldn't see anything! The fog was lying at the bottom of the dip and my headtorch was useless - creating a whiteout - just in time for me to run into two enormous puddles.

Managed to get back in the groove and run about 7k and I'll be watching out for those puddles next time.

Just hope my running shoes dry out for Parkrun tomorrow - happy running ๐Ÿ˜€

That sounds an adventure! I find fog a bit spooky!

Hope your shoes are ok ๐Ÿ˜Š

Shoes fine, thanks, they dried overnight, which is just as well considering it was 5 degrees at Parkrun, brrrrr!!

You described your run so beautifully that I felt like I was right there with you!!! (Until you said you ran 7km - I only graduated c25k yesterday!). I Love running in the dark too, though have never experienced fog yet! Bravo for plucking up the courage for your first solo night run!!!

Thanks Meintheuniverse ๐Ÿ˜€

I only started running in April and I was the most unlikely person to be a runner. I regularly run 5k and occasionally extend further. Now that will definitely include more solo night runs ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sounds like a great run - am currently trying to decide between a new headtorch (my old one is a bit rubbish!) and a chest light so that I can avoid further trips in the dark. I don't want to feel restricted to just running where there are street lights. Enjoy Parkrun๐Ÿ™‚

There was a great selection of head and chest torches at Decathlon. I live in a village with only one or two street lights (near junctions) so it's essential for me.

I haven't tried a chest torch, if you do, let me know what you think of it. At the moment I think I would prefer a light that shines where I look ๐Ÿ˜Š

This is why I haven't ordered one yet! Someone on C25K has just bought one and will post about theirs in the next few days...I really would like to do an occasional night run up my favourite bridleway so am looking at my options!

Won't a chest light bounce around a lot being on the boobs?

I have a chest torch (Kalenji Run Light) , and yes it can bounce a bit until you make a few adjustments - works better higher up for me !!! All sorted now, and I really feel safe when running in the dark, it has 3 light levels and does a great job of illuminating the path ahead so I can avoid tree roots etc. I have a head torch too, but don't really like something on my head and the strap gets rather soggy (just need to get fitter) :-) :-)

I have heard really good reviews about this light. Thanks.๐Ÿ™‚

Not much bouncing, Not with the amazing sports bra s I have!!!

Well done you. I haven't been brave enough to run in the dark yet. .. but need to or it's only one run a week! I like the idea of a cocoon of light. That sounds comforting.
