Great Bristol 10K was amazing!😀🏃🏻😀

First time I've ever been brave enough to post any pics of me, but I had such a fab time I really needed to share! (I am the one in the fluorescent top!) Travelled down to my sister's on Saturday evening, so that we could head into Bristol together for the Great Run. She'd had a cold over the last few days and it wasn't until this morning that she decided she was actually going to be able to run! I was so pleased she could as it was lovely running together. Bristol looked stunning in the sunshine this morning and despite a few nerves on Saturday, this morning they were all replaced by excitement! The atmosphere getting ready for the race was fantastic and any concerns I'd had about the sheer number of people were forgotten as we watched the waves in front of us head off. The whole event seemed incredibly well organised to me. We both set of at a nice steady pace, waiting for the crowd to thin out a little, which it did naturally after a km or so. Loved the Rock Choir rendition of 'Something Inside So Strong' being performed just before the 1km and soon after got our first wave from my husband, sons and niece, as we headed out towards the Clifton Suspension bridge. As we turned further up the course and headed back towards the city centre, it was really starting to feel quite warm in the sunshine, so the water station at 5.5k was very welcome! Support along the course was fantastic, as was the music coming from various bands and the local radio station. The last couple of km brought us further back in to town, with a little surprise hill (my sister forgot to mention that one!) with a church at the top, bells ringing out (to welcome us back?!) Not too bad however and soon we were heading down towards the finish line and a sea of happy faces and small children with hands held out for high fives! And then it was all over and I had finished my first 10k event in a new PB of 57:37! Goody bags collected and medals proudly displayed we headed home...dreaming already of that next race! 😀

I've been looking out for your post Sandra as I thought about you this morning and hoped it wasn't too warm as the sun was shining early. What a brilliant sounding day and what a fab time! All that training paid off and you must be thrilled. Many congratulations to you. And what great photos too. You look the bizz and ready to do another race!

Thanks IP! It was warm and I did feel it a bit between 6-8k, but just eased up a bit and that seemed to help. 🙂

She did brilliantly.. as you said she was getting over a cold - but You did so well to run that far in well under an hour! 🏆 Especially with the hill at the end... the bells were most definitely ringing for you😊

Well done!! Lovely pic too. I was there as well, but slower than you, I was really strong in the first 5k and slowed down for second half- I felt really sick, that heat was so hard to run in! Super time and amazing run, well done!
