Gait analysis question

I'm off for a gait analysis on Friday... do I need to take my battered old Nikes to wear on the treadmill? I'm going to wear a (clean) pair of running socks!

No because they'll put you in nice new pairs to run in. I took my old shoes for my first analysis and they didn't even look at them! Oooh how exciting, new shoes coming up!

I was asked to bring along my old pair, and did a run with them on to compare later. running socks are a good idea

They see you run in a pair of new neutral shoes, then bring out the one's that suit you..

I always take my old ones so they can look at the wear and tear and access the tread of how I run. You can read a lot about a persons form by worn runners.

Exciting.. Take them along just in case?? I went last week and I realised I was in tights ( worky work) but they had a huge basket of socks to use which was fun :)

They looked at the wear on my old ones, which was even. Apparently it often isn't! I would take them.

Thanks. I'll take them. I had a look at pronation videos today and ended up examining the soles of my trainers. I can't see any particular wear pattern but then again I may not have done enough running in them.

I took mine and they squeezed the soles to show me how they didn't bounce back in the way they should. Very interesting it was...

Bounciness, and loss of bounciness is quite interesting. My first 2 pairs were Brooks Ghost 7s which I liked a lot. I did however notice that the springiness seemed to reduce quite quickly. I bought the second pair of Brooks Ghost 7's after the first pair had done about 400km and the difference in springiness between the two was very marked. I also tried measuring the thickness of the midsole too (not including the tread), and found that in the old pair a 2mm compression set had set in. I then bought a pair of Adidas Supernova Glide Boost. When I first set out in these I thought they felt nice, but a little stiffer than the ghosts, however, by the end of the run I was convinced that my feet felt better and less fatigued at the end of a run in the Adidas shoes. I'm now on my second pair of Adidas Supernova Glide Boost, but am still also using the other pair also. I'm currently alternating them. Old pair on mid week 5km runs, new pair on weekend 11km run. I cannot currently tell any difference between the old pair and the new pair.

All this leads me to the conclusion that some shoes feel really nice new, but rapidly loose their bounce, while others hang onto their bounciness for longer.

This is born out by articles I've recently read, a lot of articles have said that the Glide Boosts hang on well to their bounciness :)

Another thing about shoes I've noticed is that the height where they touch the ankle varies quite a bit between models. Having read about Asics Gel Nimbus I was quite keen to give them a try. However, when I tried them on in Décathlon I found that they touched quite high up the back of the ankle, and I did not like the feeling. A few weeks later, I tried them on again, just to be sure I wasnt imagining it, but no, I didnt like the way they pushed on the achiles tendon :( That's when I saw the Adidas shoes and they felt comfy so decided to give them a go.

I think everyone has already said it all. Interesting the different approaches in different places though.
