Four days of being away for a family funeral and I feel like it has taken its toll. I did all my runs last week but the unhealthy food and lots of alcohol have Floored me. This time last week I felt fighting fit and ready for my next two events. 5km 31 October and 10km 15th Novemeber but today I feel like all the stuffing has been knocked out of me. I know I need good sleep, good food and no alcohol and I will be fighting fit but what does anyone else do to get them back on track? Or is it just me that falls of the wagon every now and then. 😏.

I don't know about "falling off the wagon " - but I do know that life has got in the way for me in the past couple of weeks. I was supposed to be "tapering" for a HM next week - but the taper has been more like a complete full stop!!! Oh - well - I guess I will start FULLY rested!!!

I know so many people who have niggles just before a big event, strangely enough thy are known to just disappear and everything goes smoothly on the day. Good luck

I only have to have a stodgy pudding and I feel like that. It proves that we are what we eat, and when we eat stuff we're not used to, it soon shows up in our running. Maybe it's cos we're older that we feel it more acutely. If I put on a pound or two it's like a ton weight round my middle.

You'll soon get back to normal RFC once you're back on your usual diet. Cut back on the bread and refined carbs etc and you'll soon feel better. Leave off the wine etc and you'll soon be back firing on all cylinders

Hi RFC,

I tend to feel that way a lot. I live in London and always seem to have something to go to that requires having a drink or a bowl of chips -- people's birthdays, special occasions, etc. I definitely feel it as well when I am running afterwards.

For me, (and I think it may be more psychological).. but if I eat a lot of vegetables and lighter meals plus a lot of water the next day or so, I feel like I am being a lot kinder to my body and I don't feel as sluggish.

I don't know how effective it actually is, but it puts me in a more positive mindset rather than feeling guilty for the unhealthy food and drink I've consumed and it puts me on the right track for my runs again.

Don't worry about it though, a few days from now I'm sure you'll be right back at it and ready for your upcoming events! Good luck!!

Feeling a lot better already today, thank you. I have to be so careful if my fibre Intake changes my thyroid meds go out. luckily I feel ready for a run today so that will help so much.

Glad youre feeling better RFC ! Please don't beat yourself up, under the circumstances , perfectly normal I would say.

Yes I agree , food is a great healer . I can always tell when I haven't been eating as well as I should as I feel lethargic and " Meh " I certainly feel much better when I eat as healthy as possible .

I am off that da*n wagon more times than I am on it!! Under the circumstances I wouldn't worry, I am sure after a few days climbing back on you will feel much better. Just think of me...i am clinging to the back being dragged along, like I am in some western movie!!!
