my third chemo is due on 15,i try to be as normal as possible, bcoz i hav 2 small kids,i take fruits.please advice
sir ,do u think we shud take some heal... - Breast Cancer India
sir ,do u think we shud take some health supplements like vitamins, coenzyme q10,proteins,calcium etc.bcoz i feel so weak sometimes, backache
Honestly, I do not believe in all these supplements, as long as you can take your normal food. There is no harm in taking vitamins. It's good you take fruits. There is no restriction to any type off food as such and you can eat what you like.
The weakness is because of the chemotherapy. It will all go away, once your chemotherapy is over.
I suggest, when you are doing your routine CBC test before the chemo session, also do a Vit D3 test, to ensure it is normal.
hiii little 12. Very nice and honest advice by Dr Sumeet. You know its a very nice saying, lets the medicine be our food, lets the food be our medicine. I concluded it that everything that works as medicine ,we can get from our food to some extent.so take a good diet containing different fruits vegetables and also protein rich diet because u need cell repair.Take proper rest and sleep.
tc wishng u speedy recovery

I have to second Dr. Shah's suggestion about having your Vutamin D level tested. I was shocked when mine came back below normal, as I live in Southern California. Many of the people I know with leukemia have also tested low and there were trials begun, but not continued looking for a connection. I am now finding that most of my friends, who do not have cancer of any kind are also testing low. I think it's also wise to have your vitamin B levels, particularly B12 tested. It seems that some of us just don't process these vitamins properly. There are many theories as to why, including that our foods are overly processed and factory farm produced and simply do not have all of the nutrients that they used to as the soil is being depleted world wide.
I would not add supplements unless your testing shows a need, and then I would work with your doctor to find the right level for you. It took about two years with testing every three months, to find the right doses of D3 and B12 for me. The doses that work for me are very different from the doses that work for others I know, so I don't mention numbers, as too many people just go out and load up on pills. The supplements I take are the ones my Primary Care doctor feels I need and are taken with her supervising.

Hi little 12 - during chemo my sister used to take coconut water, 2/3 times a day, take liquid in the form of juices or shakes - like apple & banana shake. Concentrate more on natural food only. She had not taken any additional medicines
Keep sharing
Thanks to all of you.
Hi Little.
I had not taken any supplementary food though initially i thaught to have it but i had read the thinking of Dr. Sumeet.
i used to take fruits, juices and in high protien diet one boiled eggs after one week of chemo and also cheese and butter with brown bread. I had eaten lots of amla candy and amla juice andDont forget to take milk if u can.
Frankly telling after 3rd chemo i also felt very tired but after one week of chemo i used to go for work and that helped me to be active
Shirdi, what you did was perfectly correct. That's what neds to be done. A good balanced food, fruit juices, and basically, natural items. Only if someone is very weak and is just not eating food, then we do give supplements, but on a routine, they are never needed.
Thanks Dr. Sumeet. But now i m advised to take Novladex along with one calcium tablet. I have heard that calcium tablets may result in creating kidney stone. Is it correct and will it be ok to take calcium tablet
