Thinning hair - supplements??

Good morning all

I thought I would ask you lovely people if you can advise on your experience with supplements. I had 8/8 oestrogen positive breast cancer. Currently on zoladex and letrozole for the past 2 years and will continue for a bit. I'm trying to tackle one depressing aspect of my life at a time, and today I have decided it's my hair! Is it safe to take biotin with my current pills? Are there any other vitamins supplements or products that would help my hair grow, thicken, shine a bit, which are safe to take with oestrogen progestorne positive cancer? My hair is now brittle and so dry,and also thinning on top. Last chemo was Nov 2017. Thank you!

Hi Caroline

I’ve taken Biotin plus some of the Named Brand Hair & Nail Supplements, l’m also on Steroids & Methotrexate which can also cause issues with my hair.

I went to see the Pharmacist & he checked out all of my Meds & Crossed referred for any interactions.

I asked him in advance & booked into see him a day or so afterwards.

I take Folic Acid as the Methotrexate depletes it from the body & when l finished my last round of Methotrexate l finished up the Folic Acid & it definitely improved my hair.

I’m still wearing a wig 4 years Post Chemo but it is improving at last.

Kind Regards

Hi Caroline

I hope this may be helpful ; my hair after finishing chemo in April , ( had cold cap all through so still had quite a lot then) after which I got pneumonia and it all fell out !

Depressing yes.

I’ve been taking biotin , vitamins B , D, C, turmeric, Selenium, magnesium, omega3, daily and growth was slow but now it’s quite thick , short but wearable around 2 inches all over.

A bit dry , but not freaky!. I’m on Letrozole which gives joint pains etc but at least I can face the world without the embarrassment I used to feel ! Many women handle the hair thing so much better than me , but it did upset me at the end to lose it after putting up with cold cap for so long!!

Keep in touch and good luck

Denise xx

Sorry to hear the agony of that cold cap was for nothing! I couldn’t hack it after 2 sessions. I’m also on the letrozole, but none of the other vits. I was always scared about interactions with the letrozole and zoladex. Happy to try them after your reply, thank you x

Two years post chemo my hair is still thin and looks dry. My mum says I never had much hair anyway ! I am currently using Argan products. Superdrug 1 in 10 argan spray is helping to keep it undercontrol somewhat. But it just seems you have to wait and it slowly slowly recovers. xxx

Thank you, I also use Argan oil but maybe need to be more patient. Best wishes x

Hi Caroline, I've chatted to various friends re hair thinning. One friend found Aston & Fincher PRO Vitamin Treatment good at thickening her hair. Others have been to Lucinda Ellery hair loss studios (various locations in uk/usa) re their free hair loss systems assessment. Last week a chap at choir who'd been away for a year, commented how much more hair I have now - made me smile. Hope you find something which makes you happy with your hair xx
