LAST CHEMOTHERAPY

Tomorrow is my last chemo!!! In a strange way I’m looking forward to tomorrow.... I start 20 rounds of radiotherapy on 4th July. Any advice on radiotherapy or what expect from side effects? Are they easier than chemo? Had conflicting advice off people.

Radiotherapy is so much easier than chemo. Keep well hydrated and use a good simple moisturiser on the area being irradiated after every treatment. I have very pale, sensitive, dry skin prone to sun burn. I used aloe gel designed for sunburn immediately after each session and I used a good moisturiser every night and morning. Following this regime, I had no skin issues at the time or since.

I found it very tiring, though my oncologist was adamant that fatigue wasn't a side effect, but I'd suggest that you pace yourself and don't take on too much while you are having it done.

Also, give yourself time to recover afterwards. Don't expect to be back to your old self immediately. You've put your body through a lot, it needs time. It was only afterwards that I realised I'd been too hard on myself and expected too much of myself too soon. You will get there but you must be kind to yourself 🙂

I agree with you, Julie. My husband had radiation for his prostate cancer. He felt fatigued as well. So, TrishLamb don't be surprised. Just take it as easy as possible. Take care of yourself. Oh, and I had chemo and, like you, was delighted to attend my last infusion.

Well done on getting to the end of your chemo, sending good luck wishes for the radio which is doable but as someone else has said, be kind to yourself while going through it xxx

Radiotherapy is nothing compared to Chemo, it will just make you very tired but you will be used to that now. Well done for getting through the chemo. Just rest and listen to your body, you will be so tired following the radiotherapy but it's good, it's just your body fighting back.x

Yay last chemo. Radiotherapy is a doddle compared to chemo. I had radio on my right boob after reconstruction. I used to smother aqueous cream on it. You may find your skin peels when you finish radio. Good luck and well done on getting through chemo.

Oh Im so Happy to be reading this ...I dont think I will ever forget that feeling knowing I wont have to go back to that ward again .....but ....be prepared for mix feelings ...Radiotherapy is a breeze compared to chemo its just inconvenient ....I used red top spray E45 cream ...a friend kindly took me to appointments ...so we had a nice coffee and a chat after ...drink loads of water ...and i found it hard to keep still ...button up top each day too ...its easier to change quickly ...lots of love, hope all goes well tomorrow ...xxxx

I never have chemo... just ibrance which is chemo but I hear radiation is less than chemo. I have 30 sections of radiation. Very tired, hot flashes, memory fog, skin irritation. But if you got chemo first... you will feel the side effects more than me .... I believe. Keep your immune system strong! Take colostrum!
