Life after post surgery bras

What would one recommend afterwards? Do still wear post surgery bras months even years after surgery?

I've been looking at cotton comfort non wired bras?

I'm gonna ask my BCN and oncologist but I also wanted to get opinions from this forum.

Hope everyone is well and had a lovely weekend.

Sami 😊

Hi Sami

Have you had a Lumpectomy or a Mastectomy?

With Reconstruction or not?

DIEP reconstruction surgery.

in reply to Sami01

I was unable to have a reconstruction due to healing & rejection risks as l have an autoimmune disease, so can’t really offer any advice other than l think until you are fully healed & comfortable, wearing a Post Surgery Bra would probably be more comfortable.

I’m sure in the morning, someone with experience will reply.

Good Luck

I'm sorry to hear that u couldn't have a reconstruction due to autoimmune disease. Is it possible to have 1 in the future? That's if u were still Interested and able?

Thank you for reading and replying to my message.

Sami

I don’t know Sami, l’m actually on a much higher dose of steroids now than l was when l had my surgery 4years ago, l’ve also moved areas so l’m at a different hospital now for Follow Up.

But, the main thing is l healed beautifully with few issues & l have No Pain so as my AD causes me a lot of pain in my major muscles l don’t want to add to my issues.

When l’m dressed you’d never know any difference, so at this time l think l’ll leave well alone!.....

I hope your Surgery & Reconstruction went well.

Best Wishes

MrsN 🌷

Hi Sami

I bought several post surgery bras from M&S and I am still wearing even though my op was 8 months ago. I have tried to wear wired bras but find them really uncomfortable now. I have discovered some really lovely pull-on bras in lace and gorgeous colours - so easy to wear if you don’t need a lot of uplift support. I’m a 34E and they give me good support. Hope that helps 🤗

Thank you for your reply Chris597. Which op did you have? If you don't mind me asking?

Before my diagnosis I purchased non wired bras from Primark, and were very comfortable. Since then prefer non wired bras. I purchased 2 sets of the front fastening post surgery bra from asda also very comfortable, though would like to buy more of that style but not many other places sell front fastening/non wired bras. Unless anyone else here has any recommendations I'd be grateful?

I will look into pull-on bras 😎

I've got an appointment with my oncologist next week, I'll see what she recommends?

Take care

Hi Sami!

I had my mastectomy with reconstruction last November. Post operation I wore post surgery bras that my BCN gave to me. They were front hook soft bras.

After the first month or so, I started on front zipped sports bras. As they wanted me in high support day and night. I bought two from m&s sports bra section and a couple from John Lewis. Get fitted, these stores are trained on breast cancer patients which is amazing.

Then last month I was just over wearing sports bras, With high support day and night. So went back to M&S to see if there are any options. They gave me jersey bras with cups in them but non wired. And the best thing is they are normal bra straps and fasten at the back. I was over wearing cross back bras as it limited the tops and dresses I could wear as you could see them haha.

Spoken to many bcn and others and all say wired bras are a no no if you have implant reconstruction.

Amazon have great front fastening and sports bras too!

Thanks

Hello Famz15

Thanks for your reply 😎 I'll have a look for in M&S for Jersey Bras.

I've seen other post surgery bras, on Asda Online, they well reviewed and look more like normal bras might get those.

Hope all is well

Hello Sami, try M&S Mastectomy bras. They’re are not all cotton but are comfortable, padded and non-wired. I had a mastectomy nearly five years ago and had an implant at the same time. Some M&S staff are trained to measure and fit bras including for breast cancer patients so perhaps give them a call to book a fitting.

Best wishes

Hello Jyelrihs, Thanks for your reply 😊

I always go to M&S for standard bra fittings. Saying that I'll go back to remeasured for what should now be my new permanent size.

Hope all is well.

Just before I went into surgery I bought myself two front closure bras which weren't necessarily "post-surgical" bras. It seems everything specifically marketed to Cancer patients is really really expensive. Like out of my price range. The two bras I bought at a random store at the mall worked fine. Two years after surgery I find I can wear certain sports bras if they are stretchy enough to pull over my head easily (most are not) but my preference is a front closure bra. I found one online at OutDoor Voices that I bought in several colors.

I had a lumpectomy. No reconstructive surgery.
