Hi Sami

Its absolutely reasonable to get emotional and stressed, you are being hard on yourself expecting to be able to handle such a big deal as though it were nothing much. Everyone of us gets worried when we have an op like this. Be kind to yourself. If it gets overwhelming, do seek out help from good friends, on this site, via Macmillan or your health care professionals. A mastectomy is a lot to get your head around. Take care Caroline xx

Thank you for your reply Caroline.

You're are right. I've been talking to my breast care nurse. It has helped lots to talk.

You take care also :)

We get it, I will get a double mastectomy at some point in my life (as I have a bad gene 🙄) and thinking about it makes me emotional. Just hope I can still make the right decision and get it done...

That is so normal, this is an operation you’re most likely being told to have not one you have elected to have. I had a double mastectomy in September. But I found peace in knowing all of the cancer will be out of my body after the operation. And honestly it was the easiest part of my cancer journey.

Thanks for the your reply SRP1013

I'm sorry to hear you had to have a double mastectomy.

I'm due to have my surgery next week. One of my friends said that too, about having peace once the cancer has been removed, soon get back on track on track with my life.

Really, you found surgery easier? Let's hope I do too.

Take care.

Hope all is well.

I had the Double masectomy. I have the relief of knowing the cancer is gone. My story is different. They had to take some chest muscle too, but, I am glad. Yes my breasts were very large, 40 H. Now I'm a little bitty thing. I will be ok.

Very true when you said you gave the relief knowing the cancer is gone!

I know this is the best thing for me!

Hope all is well

Hello Sami . Yes it’s a big “ Tsunami” emotionally getting your head around losing such an intimate part of yourself . I get showered and dressed quickly so I don’t have to dwell on what looks weird now as I’m full 40 dd on one side but it’s ok when I’m dressed and can focus on simply living . Tears are good ! I’d recommend them followed by making. Alist of all the things you are grateful for !!

In my lowest phase I found a list of 12 pretty marvellous things which cheered me up enormously! My tumour was 55 mms in total so was “potentially dangerous” and am now on chemo to reduce risks . .now a grandma with 10 baby and little grandchildren having just finished work last year so after planning a lively enjoyable retirement I find I’m fighting side effects and adjusting to a one breast body ! I’m doing fine though and and I do wish you increased peace of mind ; look after yourself ! Spoil yourself !

You sure are worth it !!

Love from Denise x

Thank you for your reply. Im sorry to hear.

Exactly, thinking about the whole breast cancer makes me very emotional as to be expected for anyone! I welcome the tears more now lol. I don't like getting emotional during appointments as I want to be on point and remember all the crucial things that will happen.

Thank you. I try to spoil myself lol :D

Take care of yourself too.

I only had a small lump which was excised totally, and I was sacred stiff! A mastectomy not easy to deal with physically or mentally, as it goes to the root of our femininity. Don't beat yourself up Sami01. Glad a talk with your breast care nurse has helped - they are always there for you, for anything worrying you. as one said to me "There is no such thing as a silly question!"

Hello Jools56,

Thanks for your reply.

I definitely need to stop beating myself up, in this situation!

"As it goes to the root of our femininity" Absolutely!

I think my breast care nurse said that too lol.

Take care
