Nagging ache

Had a mastectomy Oct 15, and it doesn’t feel right, if I lift or stretch, I get this horrible nagging feeling, in the back by shoulder blades, and sometimes it catches my breath and makes me cough, any ideas on what to do to ease this would be good.x

If I was you I'd ring my BCN or GP for advice/re-asurance, hopefully it's nothing serious, best wishes for a continued, good, recovery xx

Hi it’s really very early days as it was only October you had your surgery. And I assume you dont mean 2015? You need to stretch your arms to loosen up the muscles. Has anyone given you advice on this or specific exercises? I had wide excisional surgery to my left side in June this year, which is not by any means as extensive as yours. However They took tissue from my back and shoulder blade area to recons truct, and I’ve had to work really hard at it, to stretch the area out, to avoid similar side effects, like yours. Let me know if you want some exercise ideas, I’m happy to help 😉👍🙏, best wishes X

Thank you for your reply, but it was October 2015, but I’ve gone back to doing my exercises(like you’ve suggested) had a long soak in a hot bath, and it’s easing of a bit, I think I might of been over doing it, be had a new carpet fitted, and I moved a lot of the furniture. Also I think I’m stressing as my husband has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, so I’m doing everything at the moment, as he is rather tender after having another biopsy, so where he’d do the rubbish, I do it, so now I do it more frequently, in smaller loads, instead of 1 big hit.If it isn’t any better by next week, I’ll make a call to the nurse, just don’t to waste anybody’s time, as other people haven’t got this far yet, and need the appointments.

Hi, I’m so sorry to hear about your husband, what a terrible worry for you alongside everything personally you are dealing with. But I’m glad you are feeling a little easier after your bath and as you say restarting your exercise. I think it is something that you will always need to keep doing to stay flexible. And as you say you e been over doing things a bit lately so that’s probably putting stress and strain on yours body in ways you hadn’t realised. The exercise certainly stretching is also a good way to relieve stress, taking some time for you to focus on you and switch off, even if for a little bit. It will help you cope more too, with your very difficult situation. See how you progress and hopefully having a daily regime, your symptoms will improve. But if they don’t, do get it checked with your breast care nurses or GP, even if to put your mind at rest. They are there for you too, so don’t think you are less important than anyone else....sending warmest wishes to you both and take care X

Thank you so much for your kind response,I’ve done very little today, after doing my exercise, done some cross stitch, cooking(which I enjoy) got a bit tetchy when we were due a phone call at 2 p.m. and at 3.30 it hadn’t happened, so I rang, we were due to get his bone scan results today, said ( just a formality) had to leave a message for them, still hasn’t happened. Not sleeping, just worried silly.im going to leave it until Monday, as see how I feel,, hopefully it’s just me worry about him, causing tension.
