Solid lump behind young mastectomy scar

Hello lovely ladies I hope you are well? I haven’t posted in a long while but do read my regular ‘digests’ and dip in when I think I can help. And I now find myself in need!

I have recently (7 weeks? ago) undergone a 2nd mastectomy this time no lymph involvement so no cording or lymphodema (unlike the first one 😌). This time I didn’t drain for Britain and my drain was removed after 6days instead of 9. This time I developed a seroma straight after the drain was removed. It didn’t bother me tho it felt weird. But after 4 weeks or so the fluid began to thicken. The BCN said ‘it’s the healing process’.

Only now it has solidified and is bulging out of my chest and sometimes feels sore.

2nd call to 2nd BCN and she said ‘Did you have your seroma aspirated?’. No I didn’t.

Question: could I have asked for/ insisted on aspiration?

I know some of you lovely people have had seromas without apparent consequences 👍🏻 but did those experiences include this solid chunk of whatever it is behind my scar and if so how on earth long before it goes away, presuming it does go away?

I’m afraid I don’t trust the nurses because it seems that so long as you are not infected then there is nothing wrong with you and they just push back. But of course I am comparing this situation unfavourably compared to last time.

It’s really bothering me otherwise I wouldn’t ask for help.

Could it be necrosis? Can be removed . Talk to surgeon.

Hi Debster

Long time no speak, have you had a new diagnosis or a recurrence in the other breast? Sounds like you need to see the Surgeon, a good idea is to book an appointment with the BCN on a Clinic Day as they can always get Consultant to pop in to see you. Don’t just sit on it, worth getting it checked out!

Hello Angela thank you for your reply. No I’m well, I’ve been recovering well, much better this year than last year. I asked for a risk reducing mastectomy as I found being lopsided uncomfortable and I got extremely distressed with certain aspects of my continued care (story for another day) and asked my gp for diazepam to deal with this; subsequently reached this decision and haven’t looked back! 😁😁.

I posted on here because I was pushed back by the bcn’s and wondered if I am making a mountain out of a molehill and it is perfectly normal like they say but am reassured that it’s worth getting it looked at and not leaving it. I don’t want to leave it but do sometimes feel I am being a baby 👶😆. I will ask for an appointment soonest.

I had mine aspirated 4or 5 times. Not sure why they left it. It wasn’t painful. I just went along to the clinic( having rung first) and they did it. Definitely get it checked out. X
