Still a bit of pain after nearly 2 years?

Wishing all you ladies out there regardless of where you are in your BC journey a wonderful day :-)

And I have a question - nearly 2 years ago I had my lumpectomy, removal of sentinel node and 16 session of radiotherapy

everything has healed fine and apart from a small scar everything looks quite 'normal'

However I still get pain around my wounds from time to time - sometimes because my bra has rubbed against it I guess (I have changed them to all cover rather than sit on the scar but this is not always successful) , and my oncologist said that the skin may always feel a bit tender because of what it has been through

I understand that we are all individuals and will react to the same treatment differently, and I am only worried a little bit - but will it get to a stage when it won't be tender anymore ? or that one boob doesn't feel different to the other ? maybe it is just psychological - I would be interested to read your thoughts and experiences.

Keep smiling :-)

Liz xx

Hi lizzy, perhaps its the radiotherapy damage, not direct pain but pressure with touch. Its as if the bones remain broused thats how I describe it. Be warned the drugs and age may add weight, radiotherapy side stays small, other side grows. I ended up with a reduction about that time, a time I even wondered if I even had breast cancer before. Lived like this for a decade or more then it hit again. We must stay aware. Also had trapped nerves from the treatment that hit like cramp...it took my breath away for a second or two then disappeared. Residue after effects...in time. Treatment served me 25 years clear before repeat. Now a year clear of chemo, but masectomy this time, I hope it lasts for another 25 years. Have itching more around the area disturbed and still pain with pressure touch. Any problems discuss with bc nurses or doctor.

Yes, the nipple of the breast that has had lumpectomy looks up and pert. (Like a Teenager) the other side nipped looks down towards the floor and looked my age. Have a smile at the look! So long as you are well, cosmetic problems can be fixed. , ;-)
