Nearly a week on from laparoscopic hysterectomy....

Hello everyone

Just thought that I would update on my op which I've had as a consequence of tamoxifen for 2 years which have caused endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of uterus).

I had it Friday morning and came home Saturday afternoon not needing to be on pain relief!

I've had a total hysterectomy with both ovaries and fallopian tubes taken also.

So I'm 37 and will now go into a surgical menopause and due to my initial diagnosis nearly 3 years ago of hormone fuelled BC, I can not take HRT.

I am now waiting to hear from oncology as to which tablets I will be put on in a few weeks and as I will be classed as menopausal I'm assuming it will be an aromatase inhibitor, any experiences on these are welcome, I know we all experience different things.

Is there anyone who started on tamoxifen and switched?

I am feeling pretty good at moment, the gas that they expand abdomen with during op is quite uncomfortable so I keep moving about as advised go get it shifting😊.

Bodily functions all working fine as this was something I was apprehensive about before hand.

Some days I feel quite tired but I guess thats a lot to do with lack of hormones all of a sudden.

Have to make sure I eat really well and exercise regularly after recovery as more at risk of heart disease, osteoporosis, depression to name but a few.

we soldier on!!

hi there im also on tamoxifen after hormone receptive bc in 2013. Last year i had my ovaries and tubes removed due to some occasional bleeding but no hysterectomy dont know why. But im also still on tamoxifen so not really sure what difference the medication makes but would be nice to find out.

The gas after the op is pretty uncomfortable it took me a week or two to start to feel normal again xx

Hi. I was 48 when diagnosed last year same as you. I had radiotherapy and tamoxifen but it give me every side effect listed on the warning it was horrible. I had my ovaries and tubes removed in April now on anastrazole. I take it just before bed I can feel stiffness in my joints but everything else so far so good. Couple of hot flashes while sleeping but over in a minute max. My biggest problem with tamoxifen was how I was feeling mentally it was horrendous like I had no control of my thoughts or emotions. My best friend said last week was the first I have been me since I started treatment so for me that’s a huge positive. Good luck hope it goes well x

Hi , I am on letrozole have been for 3 years, have no side effects that I can detect, I had my bones checked before I started and they found I did have osteoporosis, so I take tablets for that, so make sure they do check your bones before you start the AI .

I take additional vit D also as when I asked for my levels to be checked , even though I had been taking calcium and vit D my levels were on the low side, think that was obviously why I got the osteoporosis in the first place! There is also research that low vit D levels are linked to cancer also.

Good luck to you Deb

Glad your recovering well, take care, and don’t rush things.xx
