Pre diagnosis jitters

Hi ... went for routine mammogram 10 days ago - for a call back for tomorrow. Up the wall one minute and calm the next. Have what I think is a cyst on one breast - started acting up a month ago - had a nasty infected one on same breast in Jan. Since the letter came so have myself diagnosed with all sorts. Haven't said it at home as I want to wait til I see what's what. Snapping at them all as a result 😨. This site has been a great find - I promised myself I wouldn' t google but came across this so glad about that! Thank you.

Hi McAnnie,

welcome, glad you found us but ..

.... don't take this the wrong way I hope you don't stick around!!

I remember well the fear of recall.. but have had a few and only the last one resulted in diagnoses. Glad you found us via Dr Google but don't look any more... most info is out of date or incorrect.

Here.. is brill for answers and the Macmillan's site is ace too macmillan.org.uk (their forum is a huge source of info and advice).

Mammographers recall loads of peeps if they're uncertain of something... you should try and look at it as lucky that they're being so thorough! If anything sinister it usually means its been caught nice and early...

Good luck tomorrow, my advice is 1. take someone with you 2. take drinks, snacks (nibbles I couldn't eat a thing for days before) 3. a book, iPad, magazines etc.

Good luck, have my fingers and toes crossed for you 🀞🏻❀️

Thanks so much for the reply! Am feeling pretty good about it now .... calmer. Can't bring myself to bring/tell anyone .... it'd be admitting that the day could go pear shaped and I feel I'd be jinxing things - if that makes sense. To be honest, I'm better by myself at this stage. We lost a child to cancer and I can't bring myself to scare family until I know what's what ... BUT ... I'll be bringing you girls with me - and very glad to have found you! Thanks again! PS ... the eating not a prob at mo .... haven't stopped!!!!😣

Sorry you've had such an awful experience, can't imagine how awful that would be.. life can be cruel.. I didn't bring anyone with me either, as in my head knew it was bad news (but was a bit in denial). Let us know how you get on xx

Thanks SO much .... though I think my appointment has been cancelled due to the storm on the way ... the country is going into lockdown 😨 .... now, what are the chances?!! Will let you know as soon as get a new apt - they've been pretty quick up to this so it shouldn't be too long.

Just remember statistics are on your side, the chances of it being cancer are low, even if they decide to biopsy then chances are still low, it's more likely to be ok than a problem that is the statistics.

I know you will still worry, I went with my sister in law for a follow up and she was a wreck, she was fine. Obviously some people are unlucky but that is the minority, on their site we have all been the unlucky ones!

Good luck

Thanks Deb .... I've had great support here! Feeling very grateful!

I was in your shoes 2 years ago,and today I go for my second follow up check up, feeling a bit nervous, but I have so much faith in my consultant.

If your going alone, take a pen and paper, and write down any questions you want to ask, and hopefully after all of that preparation it will turn out to be a cyst. Good luck, xx

Thank you all so much ... I hope you know what a difference you made over the past 24 hours. Strangers helping strangers - quite extraordinary really!! All is good ... a cyst - got antibiotics. I'm in Ireland - all outpatient hospital appointments were cancelled last night due to the storm but they decided to go ahead with this clinic - I nearly didn't go as I was sure it would be cancelled! Someone def looking after me today - along with you all. You'll never know how much I appreciate what you did 😚
