Mastectomy and latissimus dorsi flap reconstruction

Hi everyone, hope you are having a good day today, considering everything! On 18th September, I had a single left-side mastectomy and latissimus dorsal flap reconstruction, with a small implant inserted too. I am recovering well, and feel amazingly normal already, despite a pulling in my left arm, and not being able to lift anything heavy. But I just wanted to ask if anyone who has been through this had this problem:- when I bend down to pick something up, it feels like the area where my back skin joins the breast skin (where the elipse shape is where the nipple has been removed), it feels like the scar "unzips", and is quite uncomfortable. Even if I wear a soft bra and hold the breast in place, it still hurts. It looks like it's healing ok. I was getting a bit worried that the implant might be a bit big and heavy? If anyone has any thoughts I'd really appreciate it. Thanking you in advance!

Wishing you all well. x

Your problem might just be fluid build up, its early days. I didnt have reconstruction just simple mastectomy but needed fluid expressed four times. Take care.X

I had my operation 2 years ago on Monday, I still have a weird pulling feel if I over stretch or lift something heavy, I’ve got my mammogram today, then I’ll see my consultant on 17th, so I’ll ask the question and let you know. I hope things continue to go well for you, take care and don’t rush things.good luck.x

Oh do you? Gosh, I had hoped it would feel normal for you after two years! Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Mine feels like it's ripping open, but it isn't, it's odd. Wishing you well too. x

I had the same op. My implant was not small, it was big (D cup) as I was used to having big breasts and didn't want a radically different shape. It takes time for everything to settle down so don't worry about any of this. It will resolve in time. My lat dorsi had a brilliant long term result and to date (5 years n) still retains a lovely shape. Best of luck!
