Reconstruction touch ups..

Hi guys hope you are all keeping well.!!

I'm looking for a bit of advice, I had Oestrogen+ breast cancer, left side mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using LD flap, followed by 6 cycles of FEC.

I have an appt with my surgeon in few weeks to discuss evening my boobs up and getting rid of a skin flap that formed at the end of my scar on back, but I would really like to have a mastectomy on the right side to reduce the chance of reluctance but the breast care nurse they won't do it unless you have the BRCA gene (which I dont), my Gran bless her is now going through her 2nd round of treatment for BC and know several people who have had recurrence and this makes me quite anxious, we've also just lost my Mother-in-law to cancer.

Has anyone else had mastectomy on healthy breast without having the BRCA gene.?

Xxx

Yes I have, my mum and two aunts died of breast cancer and due to me having multifocal bc in one breast they had no problem with me having a preventative rh mastectomy, which I had in November last year. Gene test has been mentioned but am in no hurry tbh trying to get my head around everything the last couple of years has been enough for me. Keep asking, relay your fears and hopefully someone will listen and discuss with you x

I'm so sorry for your loss, I'm not surprised your taking the time to get your head around everything!

I will definitely keep asking them xx

Thanks Sandy is all a while ago now, my mum was the last and she died in 1991. Wasn't really a hard decision for me after weighing up the varying factors. It gets discussed in the weekly MDT meetings and you get a well rounded opinion from all the doctors and nurses, think they need you to be 100% sure and aren't doing it as a knee jerk reaction...

I feel for your poor Gran, not nice going through at any age but you can deal with the side effects better the younger you are... hope she's coping OK.

Am having my final implants done later this year and hopefully (fingers crossed) will be even for the first time in 2 years lol! x

I asked the same question to my surgeon as they said when i had my lumpectomy that there was more in there that would never of shown on scans or a mamagram. I asked how did they know what was in the right one they said they didnt but still wouldnt do it. I also had the skin at the bottom of my scar removed. Best thing i did. Good luck
