New there, so this is me...

Hi all.

I'm new on here so thought I would introduce myself. I'm Amanda and 4 years ago, I was diagnosed with grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma at 26. I had 2 lots of surfers, the first was a WLE followed by full node clearance due to spread. I had 6 rounds of chemo and 3 weeks of intensive radiotherapy and went on to herceptin.

I went to my 1 year check up and mentioned that I had a large lump in my neck and thought is was because I had a cold. They sent me for a FNA and low and behold the cancer was back. In the nodes around my neck and all the way down my windpipe. I was put straight onto Kadcyla through the Cancer Drugs Fund (uk) and my tumours have remain the same ever since :-) I am able to live my life and I am currently on a journey to get fit and loose weight and I'm doing really well. I am hopefully that I have a long time ahead of me but scan times always make me nervous wondering if now it is the time the drug stops working .

In a nutshell that is my journey. I hope everyone else is well with their journeys x x

Hi Amanda, and welcome, I found the group after I had my BC, I am 54 diagnosed in April 2015 ER + ductal cancer.

I assume you are Her2+ as you are taking herceptin, are you continually taking herceptin? I only ask as my cousin in Oz her daughter was 30 when diagnosed is Her2 + also, and is still on it, as it came back so she has been told she will be staying on it for now, think she has been on it for 5years now.

I think it is a brilliant group, as you can talk to people who have been through it and have similar worries etc, and you don't feel so alone.

You sound like you have your head around it and are coping well, I also am trying to get fit and lose weight, changed my diet now a veggie and don't eat diary or try not to.

Welcome Deb xx

Hi Deb,

Yes I am her2+, they took me off herceptin as soon as they found recurrence and moved me on to kadcyla.

I feel very fortunate that I have always handled this well for my age. The worst part was when I was 27 my oncologist said she I would never be off treatment and would not be able to have children. But I started to look at this from a different angle and I am in a really good marriage and children would change the relationship we have and why would I want to change it.

You are one strong girl, I had children later in life after years of trying and losing two babies.

You have other options if you wanted children adopt etc, which I am sure you will have thought of, if that is important to you. Animals bring a lot of comfort, I have a dog and I am involved in dog rescue, and trained as a behaviourist, we just have to make the most out of life, having BC makes you realise that I think.

Xx

Hi and welcome. You sound a very positive person and enjoying life. Keep up the good work. Waiting for resullts is the worst part. I used to get giant butterflies in my stomach for a few days before going for results. Now I have learnt to relax and talk myself out of worrying. Good luck with rest of your journey xx

Hello. The biggest thing for me mentally is the fear of cancer coming back. Glad to see you have been able to live your life.

Hi - I too discovered a lump on my neck 2 years after I had a mastectomy. Had chemo then went onto Herceptin too. Had 45! Then scan revealed cancer was back in my lungs so I'm now on Kadcyla too - feel so fortunate! How have you been on it? My first was 3 weeks ago and I felt as though I'd been hit by a bus! Yesterday after treatment they gave me steroid tablets to take and I feel fine! Been to get my nails done 💅 ! If it's all like this I definitely won't mind... I hope you are keeping well too.. we're strong us Kadcyla Kids!!! Luv n hugs xx

I've been on it 3 years bow, the first first cycles were hard. Vomiting along and lots of headaches. They soon disappeared though and have along time been generally symptom free :-) although I have had my dose reduced after losing 2stone and headaches and nausea have kicked back in, very strange but then that does sum me up. Lol
