Hello everyone. My girlfriend did an ultrasound and 3 small lesions where found on her right breast. The report said suggestive of malignancy. We're waiting for biopsy results. I'd really appreciate any thoughts on this. Many thanks

We have all been at that point where she now is -- with all those fears.  We know the waiting is difficult and seems a long time.

If her biopsy results show malignancy, she will learn its type and what treatment is recommended.  Even with bad news, then she would feel in better spirits, feeling more in control, as things would then be getting done about it.

If the biopsy results show benign condition, we will be relieved and happy for you two.

What about you?  Is your attachment firm enough that you could stay with her to be supportive of her through such a time?  If she has malignancy, the journey would be hard on her, and if you love her enough to stand by her through it all then you would have to suffer too.  You would often feel helpless about it all, seeing your loved one feeling far from her best.  Do you love her enough to be there for her through it all?

I'll do anything for her 😥  Thank you for your reply. The ultrasound report did day suggestive of malignancy.  I know medicine has improved a lot  in recent years. Is it the same for breast cancer

Be as supportive as you can, mind you, seeing you post here certainly demonstrates your support. It is a scary time waiting for results. If it is positive it really is not the end of the world, just listen to your oncologists and go with the flow for treatment. I was diagnosed last October, have had chemo and mastectomy. It's not easy, definitely use your cancer support services for help, support and advice. But please God, it will be good news for her. Good luck to you both. xx

I was diagnosed over 6 years ago and a couple of friends have been through the same thing. I would say that having my partner there helped me through the treatment be by her side when she needs you too, but give her space when she needs. I found little treats go along way if you do need treatment. And I know this is easy to say but don't let it take over your life, still enjoy the simple things like a walk or a meal out. And most importantly don't punish or blame yourself when you feel like you cannot help, just being there for her is the best you can do.

Just remember you can't change the diagnosis and its better knowing than not knowing.

Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with me. I also read that treatment has improved recently.  Is that true?

All I can say is that my treatment was excellent, ultimately I think it depends on the exact type of cancer.

be supportive but live life normally. i see a lot of women who just need a lumpectomy  and radiotherapy.  much less invasive than chemo and mastectomy. so just wait and see. its a journey but im 2 years on and can see light at the end of the tunnel. Just dont let it take over your lives.

Hi ks1966, I was diagnosed in September 2013, 2cm in right breast and 1 1/2 in left, I had lumpectomies, which with that amount I feel sure would have been mastectomies 10yrs ago, I was given a one in three chance of missing out on chemo if I wanted to sign up for a trial Oncology were running at the time, I did, and it worked so no chemo for me just lumpectomies and 3 weeks radiotherapy, the trial that I signed up for, which showed not every patient needs chemo, is now being used in this country, when appropriate for the patient, my journey was exactly 6 months, first mammogram 3 Sept discharged from Oncology 3 March, I wish you and your girlfriend well, stay strong and you'll both get through this x

Hi, it's the Oncotype DX, when I arrived at Oncology I thought I was looking at 18 weeks chemo on a 3 week cycle, but the consultant said they are finding a lot of people go through chemo without needing it, and I was in that group, he drew it out like a family tree, option 1 chemo, option 2 chemo, option 3 no chemo, I signed up and my cancer went to London, if it had stayed there its option 1, in London it got picked out and sent to California (at the time it was too expensive to do the test in this country), over there it was tested for a certain level (I've forgotten the actual details), a high number is chemo a low number no chemo, for me it worked, the test is now being used in this country, it was offered to me as they were so sure the cancer hadn't spread to any other part of my body, so please be aware that the test may not be suitable for your girlfriend, hope this helps

Hi ks1966 I really hope it's good news for your girlfriend. The waiting is agonising as your life goes on hold for that time. Mine was found on a routine mammogram so very lucky with a lumpectomy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen. Are you going to the appointment with her? because she will need your ears and support even if it's good news too. If it is bad news it doesn't have to be the worst news as so many breast cancers are cureable these days. You both need to stay strong for the journey ahead, it will change your lives but often for the better. I have my post radiotherapy review tomorrow so it's brought it back to the forefront again and the fear is back but I will beat it, as will your girlfriend. I wish her the very best of good health.

Like everyone is saying it's hard waiting for results, but whatever the outcome she will be in good hands & they don't mess about. I had no idea until I went for mamagrame I had biopsy but deep down me & my partner knew the results wasn't going to be in our favor. My partner was my rock & still is just be there for her every step of the way, I've never cried so much & thought he was getting fed up of my mood swings but he didn't I'm sure by the sounds of you , your going to be the same keep posotive & good luck 💘

When you get the results please be there with her. I went alone as I thought it would be good news. It wasn't.

Ask lots of questions and gather as much information as possible.

Question the doctors recommendations too.

Why is this the best option  for Gf?

What are the current stats for this cancer recurring with the treatments they are suggesting?

You might find it advantageous to write some of the information down as I'm sure lots of it won't sink in at the appointment. Good or Bad.

Good luck. She's very lucky to have you x
