Just saying hi

Hi there. I'm a 36 year old from ireland diagnosed last July. I had 2 lumpectomies & then had to go for mastectomy on left breast as they kept finding tiny tumours. Had my mastectomy in Sept . The recuperation wasn't as bad as I expected, yes I still get sore but it's bearable. I'm lucky in so far as I didn't need chemo or radiotherapy just tamoxifen for 5 years. I'm waiting for my last operation in reconstruction where they remove expander & put in implant, but they've been out of stock since xmas!!! I just want it over so I can recover & get back to work. I feel so frustrated by this & struggling financially as well. But hey ho, chin up. Well that's my story. Hope it helps give someone else some hope.

  • Hi there .

  • That's great that you don't need chemo. I think we have to look for the positives when going through this. Keep your chin up & if you wanna chat I'm here. Xx

  • Thank you,

It means a lot to talk to others. Its looking good all i need to do is get through the rest and more WAITING! I am thinking strong and positive.2016 will be better than 2015 x

  • Have you contacted McMillan nurses. They will be able to tell you whether there are any benefits or grants you can get. We found them really useful

  • I did have a chat with them but i did a wrong one when i sold the house as i thought i wouldnt be able to survive with the financal strain. I have never claimed anything in my life always worked hard. As i now have a little money to cover my sick. I now live in a caravan. but its cheap. I am looking forward to getting back on my feet in 2016 I looked at a rental today and was choked to be told the price. also as i had to cut my last months morgage on my old home it has given me a bad credit rating. So than i looked at starting another morgage with the little money i have left but this is impossible getting life insurance to cover morgage. It is catch 22 x

  • Sorry to hear that. Hope things get better for you x

  • Morning- so sorry to hear that you have had such a bad time, the journey is never easy and sounds like you have had a bumpy road. Try to stay positive and get as much support as you can from friends and family. This is also a great way to contact people who actually know how your feeling. Take care and anytime you need a chat then here i am Julie

  • Thanks Julie. I'm getting lots of support but sometimes it's nice to chat to someone that's gone through it. I know I'm 1 of the lucky ones. Thanks for ur offer of chats 😊

  • Hi , that's what I feel , have been very lucky ! Fears never go away ! Though ,Just have to deal with it ! I have four beautiful grand children that helps to keep me focused , I think talking is great theorapy ! Take care x

  • I think talking sorts a lot of the stress out

  • Glad your recovery is going well but sorry to hear you have to wait so long for the implant, how frustrating.

I am going for my mastectomy and axillar node clearance next week after completing 6 chemotherapy sessions, then it is onto 3 weeks of radiotherapy before a 6 month break to recover then reconstruction (tram flap).

Reading all the messages makes me realise how different all our treatments are and that it is not such a lonely journey after all!

    Good luck with the implant.

    Emily x

  • It's amazing how much the treatments differ. No 2 people are the same. Best of luck with your treatment. Xx

  • Dear all our journeys are all different but none are easy and even after the first journey we have things to cope with but above all we are alive and have lives to lead with friends and family. I decided against reconstruction after mastectomy and have never regretted that decision. I just couldn't face the idea of more surgery. I am happy enough with my prosthetic subsitute and lots of companies produce pocketed lingerie. Good luck to all on this forum xx
