I was diagnosed in situ 7 years ago. I opened for a Mastectomy and reconstruction as my dr said recurrence rate is less than 2 % as opposed to lumpectomy with radiation and approximately 13% recurrence. Seemed like a no brainer to me at 59. They found clusters of cancer cells in one lymph node. Removed surround 5 or 6 and they were clean. Pathology came with a nuclear grade 3. My surgeon said I made a good decision on mastectomy. My question? I've been reading more recently on recurrence for metastatic BC in early stage. I always questions how it could be in situ if they found cancer cell even in just 1 node. I'm afraid one day I will wake up with MBC. Does anyone have any info on this topic? What type of patients with early stage end with MBC? I'm hearing something like 30% of in situ or early? Is this correct and what does it all mean. Thanks for providing any info you might have.

I don’t have the information you want, but I know where I would get it as I live in the UK.Here we have several specialist breast cancer charities who would - I assume - be able to deal with your questions. The ones I would approach are
Macmillan
Breast Cancer UK
Breast Cancer Now
And there are several more, all specialising in different areas.
