Tony's Coma and weaning

So since yesterday Tony has cried while in his coma, smiled when I spoke to him and even covered his mouth while he yawned. I'm a bit confused because it looks like he's sleeping but when I call his name he wakes and then some times randomly he'll wake and then stay awake for a while before going back to sleep. I really hope this means he's trying to finally come to. Today is also the third day he was able to breathe on his own for more than9 hours without the vent. I'm very proud of him but still anxious and desperate for him to finally break out of the coma. I miss his hugs and kisses like crazy. Anyone have any experience of seeing this?? Thanks.

He covered his mouth? Is he able to move? What’s his GCS ?

Don’t worry Armani he’s really doing a great job , brain healing takes time and he’s improving so fast , he will be okay I’m sure

Well that sounds like a huge improvement with some higher functioning goin' on. I think you can start to relax a bit and go with it. He knows you, his name, some manners. He will tire quickly which is usual. How are his limbs movements. You can slowly breath a relieved sigh, and one day at a time xxxxx

I sure hope so. It's so hard to see him awake then sleep. Yes I know he gets tired I feel so bad. I just need him to follow commands! I know I have to be more patient.. It's just so hard.

I think you have done so well. I so get you want to see reassuring signs that Tony is on the mend. Little and often; tiredness is a big factor. The signs of improvement are there, he is responding to you, to things he hears etc. 🌻🌺👌

Hi there Armani. I haven't been on here for a while - my step son is now 11 months on after his TBI. He is still in a vegetative state of consciousness :(

As I understand it smiling, crying, awake asleep pattern are all really good signs. Putting his hand to his mouth when yawning is meaningful movement. All very good signs. They should be scoring his GCS often so ask what it is as that is the only official way of knowing what his level of consciousness is.

Thinking of you and Tony with heartfelt love. x
