Post aneurysm coiling

Hi I have 5 brain aneurysms one of which was coiled in June 2016. Since the surgery I now suffer chronic daily headaches and migraines. I’ve been under the care of a neurologist trying so many medications but have been unable to tolerate any of them. He has told me for now the last option is Botox but I don’t want to have it because of my reactions to medications. Ten days ago I had probably the worst migraine headache and a new symptom which my right arm went heavy and totally numb and also from my knee down to three of my toes very strange and very frightening. I’ve been to see my doctor on Monday and she thinks it’s Hemiplegic migraine and taken blood tests and contacted the hospital for someone to see me. This will obviously take time with the NHS. I’m still having numbness on my right arm and bottom of leg. Has anyone experienced anything like this

Just wanted to let you know I’m sorry you’re having these symptoms and that the NHS will not see you immediately. I am new to this forum and newly diagnosed and wanted to send this note of support out to you. Please give us updates on how you’re feeling and your progress with the NHS.

Hi thank you very much for replying to me. Do you live in Glasgow? I’m sorry to hear you are recently diagnosed. Do you need surgery? I think it will help just having other people with brain aneurysms to talk to. When I was first diagnosed I was told just to carry on and live my life and not to worry. It’s easier said than done.

I have had a reaction to the muscle relaxant (veracumin ) and reversal drug (suggamadex ) which are used with anaesthetic. The op was abandoned so I know it wasn't to do with the operation. The result is I have muscle stiffness and nerve sensitivity in both legs. Walking is painful (meds were given in may this year).

As for botox... I'd try it but you could look up side effects first to see the risks.

Hi Anders I've checked the side effects from Botox and it will vary from person to person. I've had such a horrible time with reactions to medications and reading some of the side effects from Botox I am not prepared to try it. There is a new preventative migraine injection hopefully being available from the NHS in 2019.

I had coiling 5 months ago and suffer severe migraine and headache as a result daily. toparimate has been increases again and sumatriptim has just been increased to 100mg.

Hi I know exactly how you feel. I must have tried around 12 preventative migraine medications and all of them have caused me to have horrendous side effects. The only thing I can take is zolmitriptan when my migraine happens which is at least 2-3 a week and I have a headache everyday. I am now 2years 5months since my coiling of my aneurysm. This is not how I thought my health would be post surgery. Now I'm having this new symptom of total hand and arm numbness and also leg weakness another complication from anuerysm coiling.

Its all very worrying. I've had some speech and memory issues to. I didn't expect all this. I've not been able to return back to work. I never ever suffered with headaches before of any sort. I mean I'm grateful they repaired the aneurysm but it's come at a cost I wasn't aware of and didn't expect.
