I can't lie down. Is this normal

Hi just need a little advice please.

I had an unruptured basilar aneurysm coiled on Tuesday, Since coming home I have been unable to sleep more than two hours as pain is so bad when lying down that I have trouble getting up.

Has anyone experienced this

Hi Cas I didn't have a coiling but a flow diverter insertion for mine and I had migraine level headache for about 3 weeks - advice from the ward was to keep taking the painkillers.....it did stop eventually. Guess the brain, while not 'feeling pain' in the typical sense can still be 'hurt' by these procedures.

Yes the headache is as you describe so your advice was much appreciated. I hesitated to ring the ward as I was worried they would automatically tell me to come back in and it is a fair distance from where I live.

I rang the ward many times...at the end of the day only they can really tell you what is 'normal' post surgery x

I have 5 coils and a stent in my brain from an unruptured aneurysm too. Mine was done 3yrs ago now, and I must admit recovery takes time, and I'm sure each recovery is unique.

I don't remember not being able to lie down. But our head has gone through major surgery so will have after effects just like any other organ in the body. So we will have some pain, some soreness, and several peculiarities - but NEVER be afraid to call the hospital AT THE SLIGHTEST THING. Your LIFE depends on this all being ok, and you must not take any chances. Please always ring your hospital. And never be afraid to ask to talk to your specialist or surgeon if you have worries, concerns, or pain, at any time now, or in the future.

We are not experts on this site. Pain is always something we should check on. Your specialist at the hospital will be expecting to advise you now and into the future. It is a major operation that you are very lucky to have survived, so please take everything easy, and slowly, and ask for help rather than struggle or worry. Your life will have changed now so please ask your doctor organise specialised help from a neuropsychologist to help you understand and cope with the changes that WILL be there. Best help I ever had!
