Hi there

Women in their 40’s do have normal pregnancies. Whilst there is some evidence to suggest that the older we are, the more likely it is we may encounter fertility or pregnancy problems such as high blood pressure, pre-eclamspia and diabetes there is also evidence to show that if we're fit and healthy, there's really no reason why we can't enjoy a normal pregnancy free of complications. There are plenty of tests available and if a scan picks up anything unusual, your midwife will offer further tests to ensure any problems are identified early on in pregnancy. It would probably be best to chat things through with your GP.

I hope this helps

Best wishes

Katherine
