Told that I can’t have Zoledronic Acid.

Dear friends,

I am finishing 2 years of Forsteo at the end of July. In preparation for the possibility of having ZA Infusion as follow on treatment, I have been attending dental appointments . Having been passed to the practise surgeon to have an extraction, we were both shocked to discover I may need two more! ( all molars ) I also have problems with my jaw (TMJ). I mention the dental side of my journey because the surgeon was mortified to hear that I was heading towards ZA infusions. He very emphatically told me to avoid it at all costs. I had to tell him that it wasn’t a casual choice but my only choice having had 15 spontaneous fractures. The first extraction took place and I’m now out of my head trying to deal with dry socket. ( Unable to take pain killers due to allergic reactions )

The other day I attended my rheumatology department. On this occasion it was for a bone spur on my knee and not for the metabolic bone disease clinic. However with all my history in front of her, the doctor did inform me that I will be having a Dexa scan in August and then a decision will be made on what if anything, my next osteoporosis drug will be. She also told me that ZA isn’t an option ( or any other bisphosphates ) due to my heart condition ( INOCA). I’ve previously had a severe reaction to Denosumab, so I’m getting very low on options.

I am truly grateful that my hospital has my best interests at heart Literally!

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received!

Have a look at this post below, since you are in UK, you have the mbst available there.

I don't know if it can help you maintain the gains from Forteo, my own osteoporosis is not usual, I am not postmenopausal, had fractures already at 38. I don't know the cause of my OP and haven't taken any medication. However, I have increased my BMD with mbst and supplements/exercise.

Dear Friend,

I am so sorry to hear that you have these problems so early in life and wish you the very best help fo your future.

Thank you for all the information you have sent me. I must admit that I’ve not heard of this, so we’re going to look into this and I will get back to you.

Warmest wishes across the pond!

Margaret.

Oh Margaret, I am so sorry to hear your latest news. I can remember years ago having a tooth out and worrying about dry sockets - I had never heard of them before. You must be absolutely devastated with it all. I’m sure your doctors have got their thinking caps on and will come up with something for you to move on to.

I’ve been trying to think what else you could try for your tooth pain and googled acupuncture and dental work and found this

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

There are also links to acupuncture and osteoporosis if you haven’t already seen them although I’m not sure about that.

Believe me you are in my thoughts, sending best wishes 🙏

Dear Fruitandnutcase,

Just getting your caring reply is healing. Thank you so much.

I’ve ‘phoned my dentist this morning at opening time and they’ve just phoned me back with an appointment later this morning. I’ve been in agony all weekend and I believe they will have to open up the socket again, so back to where I started.

Thank you for the links. Acupuncture is definitely a thought. I tried it years ago for a different reason. Also, one of the part time dental receptionists is a Reiki healer, so I’m making an appointment as she comes highly recommended.

Thank you again for your kindness, I will stay in touch,

Warmest wishes, Margaret

I'm very sorry to hear about what you've been going through, Margaret. Dental pain is dreadful. I hope it eases soon. Interesting articles from Fruitandnutcase . I haven't used it in this context, but I think acupuncture and TCM can be very helpful. I'm glad you 're open to other types of treatment and hope you find something that helps. Best wishes.

So glad your dentist is going to help you. We had a friend who had all sorts of health problems who used to have reiki and found it really helpful.

Let us know how you get on x

Just had a thought - I’m sure on the after care list I got from the dentist when I had my tooth out it suggested taking vitamin C to help with the healing so if you can take vitamin C it might be worth trying that.

Thank you, will definitely give that a try. I have a low dose in a multivitamin but will get a boost!

I’ve come home with antibiotics although dentist isn’t convinced that I’ve got an infection. The repair on the socket seems improved.

Please take care and we wish you a peaceful evening.

Big hugs, Margaret

hello

I'm now on d'mab as al. acid didn't work..yes, tooth extraction led to slow gum healing over - ?kept getting infected - but when I had antibiotic for eye infection, this sorted gum as well..

apart from that, no problems

Thank you. Interesting to hear the antibiotics helped even although they were prescribed for a different reason. I’ve returned home today with antibiotics. As you say, slow to heal.

I have previously tried Denosumab but had to stop because of a huge cyst on my lower jaw. I still have the scar.

Best wishes to you, Margaret

my dentist long ago said chondrosamine and glucosamine help building up the teeth. not sure if it's a good thing to have while healing, just a precaution, and very sorry for the things happening
